He lays his head next to mine, his cock still buried deep inside me, and I wrap my arms around him. I could lie this way forever. I never stopped loving this man, and I don’t ever want to be apart from him again. But what does he want? Why did he leave me all those years ago? Was he ashamed of who he was and didn’t feel that I could really love him until he made something of himself? Is that why he chose to come back into my life now?

The thought brings tears to my eyes. I’ve always loved Rhence, thought he was perfect the day he walked into my classroom. The only thing I ever demanded of Rhence was his heart, the thing he could give me freely.

He finally raises his head and looks into my eyes. “I love you, Rachel. I never stopped loving you, and now, I really can offer you anything you want.” His brow furrows. “If you still want me.”

My heart nearly shatters at the nervous, almost frightened, look on his face. “Rhence,” I plant a big kiss on his cheek, “I never stopped loving you. Not for one single day. I was angry at you, sure. But I never stopped wanting you, never.”

He closes his eyes and sighs, his body relaxes against mine. “We’ve wasted so much time, I don’t want to waste a minute more. I want us to be together for good.”

My heart feels like it’s exploding and I tremble with emotions unspoken. “Am I dreaming again? Is this real?”

He pinches my side, and I yelp. Then I giggle.

“Nope, definitely not dreaming.” I trace the outline of his jaw and brush the strands of hair that have fallen into his face. “This is for keeps this time, right? No disappearing acts.”

He looks confused for a moment, but then he shakes it away. “Let’s leave the past where it is. Let’s focus on the future and the amazing life we’re going to have together. Now that I can finally give you everything.”

It’s my turn to frown. “Youareeverything, Rhence. You always have been.”

He smiles sadly and rolls off me. I’m suddenly cold and exposed, so I start grabbing for my clothes. He retrieves my bra for me and points to a door behind his desk.

“There’s a bathroom right there,” he says.

I gather my things and pad barefoot to the bathroom. I turn before I enter to find him grinning at me.

“Just admiring the view,” he tells me. “Shake a leg, babe, I need to get in there too. I’ve got a deployment kick-off meeting in fifteen minutes.”

I hurry inside and turn on the faucet to clean away the evidence of our love making. Though I’m exhilarated, I’m a little troubled by his reluctance to discuss the past. I was devastated when he vanished without a word. It was the darkest, most frightening period of my life. I went into therapy over that man, and I don’t get to ask why? I’m equally troubled by his saying he can give me everything now, as if that were some criteria I set out for him before we could be together.

A knock at the door startles me.

“Rachel?”

I open the door. “All done,” I say cheerfully. I choose to be happy and focus on the fact that the love of my life has returned and wants a future with me. That’s all that matters now. “It’s all yours.”

He chuckles, “Thank you, dear.” When he brushes by me, he kisses my brow. “I’ll just be a minute.”

I return to his office lounge area and pick up the throw pillows that fell onto the floor during our…love play. I arrange them neatly on the cushions. Rhence must have cleaned up the broken vase. I smile. What a world of difference there was in making love to Rhence the teenager and Rhence the man.

Though at some points I could’ve sworn I felt more anger than desire in those powerful thrusts and grunts. I sure as hell hope he doesn’t think that his money makes a damn bit of difference to me. I agreed to marry him when he barely had two cents to his name. So why the anger and attitude?

I hear the toilet flush and then the water running in the sink. We were just kids back then. Who knows what his insecurities may have driven him to do. I know he always said I was too good for him, but I’d immediately disabuse him of that ridiculous notion. Or at least I thought I had.

“Stop it,” I mutter to myself. I choose to be happy and to take Rhence’s advice about focusing on the future, not the past.

He strolls out of the bathroom and blushes slightly when he catches sight of me staring at him.

“Just admiring the view,” I say as he pulls up before me. His hands slip around my hips.

“So, I’ve got this meeting in five minutes and then this big deployment will take us pretty late into the evening.”

I tilt my head to the side. “Which means playtime is over, back to work.”

“I’m afraid so, but I’ll call you first thing in the morning so we can have breakfast together.”

“It’s a date.”

“We’re beyond casual dating, Rache. We’re a full-fledged committed couple,” he says and punctuates it with a smack on the lips.
