Loosening my grip on her body, I moved a piece of hair out of her eyes, smiling at her happiness.

“I could hear a fly move nowadays. These enhanced powers are pretty great.”

“I heard you can run even faster now.” Halley said and her words sparked an idea.

Gripping her waist, I hoisted her body up, reveling in the feel of her legs wrapping around my waist. Her face was inches from mine, her pulse beating with excitement, and I couldn’t help when my fangs extended at the scent of her intoxicating blood. Even though I needed blood less on Agrum Di Vinum, being this close to her, the lust for her body and blood was as strong as ever. However, I pushed away those thoughts, wanting more time seeing her laugh unabashedly.

“Hold on tight, princess.” I commanded before breaking out in a sprint.

Faster than ever before, I raced through the trees surrounding the perimeter of the castle, branches and leaves whipping past us in a blur. Flashing through the rows of shelters, I made our way to the castle, Halley’s laughter the only noticeable sign of our presence.

Night had fallen several hours ago, the dark hues of the sky midnight black at this hour. Running through the halls of the castle, I jarringly stopped outside of the bedroom corridors. Halley’s laughter softened as she tried to quiet in the halls, her heart beating fast from the rush.

“That was amazing.” Halley rushed out through heavy breaths and I slowly lowered her to her feet, the pulse in her throat too enticing in close proximity.

I wasn’t sure what to say now. I knew it was late and we had an early morning meeting with the committee members and Willow. However, I wanted more time with her. I had been craving her presence for too long.

Halley must have seen my indecisiveness, because without a word, she linked our fingers together and lead me towards the sixth empty room in the corridor we had claimed as hers. I knew the room had been left open for her and Knox must have shown it to her earlier. Slowly easing the door open, Halley pulled me through, quietly shutting it behind us.

Alone and in an enclosed space, my eyes instinctively went towards her neck. I wanted a taste.

“Do you want a taste?” Halley repeated, seemingly reading my mind.

Before I could answer, Halley tilted her head to the side, baring her sensitive skin to me, and I didn’t waste a minute. Striding forward with determined steps, I wrapped one arm around her waist, the other going to her tousled curls, gripping the strands and exposing her neck even more.

My fangs extended, meeting her supple skin, and sinking in. My mouth salivated at the taste of her blood and I felt my power swell in its chest, even stronger than I thought possible. My grip tightened in both hands as I continued to suck and Halley moaned, my cock hardening at the sound. Halley’s hands reached out, running through my hair and tugging hard, causing me to groan against her skin.

When my power was sated, I pulled away from her neck, her blood dripping down my lips. Without hesitation, Halley pulled me forward by the strands of my hair, crushing her mouth to mine. The taste of her blood mixed with the warmth of her tongue sent me into overdrive and within a second, I flashed us towards the bed, trapping her body underneath mine.

Rolling my hips into her, we both groaned at the friction. Pulling away from my mouth, Halley moved down my neck and I nearly ripped her clothes off when she bit down hard, tugging at the skin on my throat. I had never experienced anything sexier than the woman beneath me.

For hours, we explored each other’s bodies. Kissing and sucking and biting until her body was smeared in blood and all mine had rushed to my cock. And yet, I didn’t want to push it farther. I wanted to take the time to know her body. To experience these moments that only racketed the tension between us higher.

Finally, our bodies slowed, the kisses turning softer and the touches turning into caresses. The tender moments lasted until I was lying on my back, Halley curled up on my chest, her hands running down my chest as I smoothed mine down her spine. And in that quiet moment of calm, I found myself speaking. Wanting this woman to know everything about me.

“I remember the first time I got in trouble at school. This may come as a surprise, but I was always a little bit of an asshole.” Halley chuckled at my words and I smiled, pinching her side. “Some kid in my class had stolen my favorite crayon and I was pissed. I was also only seven. But that didn’t matter. I walked right up to the kid, took my crayon back, and then stole his entire pencil box. Having a single dad, we didn’t’ have much, so that crayon was important to me. Unfortunately, he told the teacher and my dad was called.”

As I spoke, Halley rolled more onto me, resting her chin on my chest so that she could look at my face. Cupping her cheek in my hand, I briefly wondered what I did to deserve this moment.

Continuing the story, I explained. “I remember freaking out that my dad would be mad at me. I wasn’t supposed to get in trouble at school, I knew that. So, when I got home that day, Dad was waiting at the door and I was freaked out. Except, to my surprise Dad didn’t yell at me, instead he showed me the new pencil box he bought, filled to the brim with crayons and markers and everything else. In that moment I realized that my dad would do anything for me, because he loved me so much. And I grew up hoping that I would be that kind of guy.” Sighing, I thought back to the last years and realized how much I had lost my way. “When he died, I forgot about those moments. I wasn’t that guy.”

Staring into Halley’s eyes, I held her face in my hands, wanting her to know the truth behind my words. “I want to be that guy for you. Fuck, I even want to be that guy for the rest of them. Don’t tell him, but Madden’s really growing on me.”

Halley smiled at my words and then she pressed a soft kiss on my chin before resting her head back on my chest, snuggling closer to my side.

“I think you’ve always been that guy Wilder. Even when you pretended to hate me, you saved my life. Your dad would be proud of the man you are.”

Her words settled something inside of my chest and for the first time in a while, I went to sleep content. Knowing I would do anything for the people in my life because I loved them.

Chapter Thirteen

Halley

I woke up on my stomach, a strong arm resting along my back. Rolling over as to not disrupt the man behind me, I took in his features. Asleep, his sharp face looked softer, not tense from the stresses of the days. Although, last night, I had felt the sincerity in his words and seen the calm in his eyes. I knew that each day, we would grow to know more about each other.

A knock on the door had my head swiveling, and as I remembered the meeting for this wonder, I could only hope that we would each survive long enough to enjoy the happiness we were slowly finding together.

The arm across my back tightened and I knew the knock had woken Wilder as well. I was convinced that nothing could get passed my men now that their powers were heightened.
