The three of us laid on our backs, our bodies sticking together, as a wide smile adorned my face. I never knew I could experience pleasure like that. But I did know that with four men by my side, I had much more in store for my future. If we ever made it to that future. Thinking of everything we still needed to figure out, I interrupted our little bubble.

“We should go check on the others. See if there’s been any changes.” I spoke to Knox and Eli, both of them groaning at the thought of getting out of bed.

But I knew that we couldn’t hide away forever. Thinking of my nightmare from last night, I knew that the Darkness could affect us just the same as it had Demetrius and the other Divines. Time was ticking, and we needed to figure out a plan sooner rather than later. Before more of us were lost to the shadows, Darkness eating away at our minds.

???

Stepping into Willow’s room, I eyed Madden and Wilder, the two sitting shoulder to shoulder against the wall, gazes intent on Willow and Demetrius. Willow sat on the bed beside Demetrius, still whispering words. I wondered if the unknown language was some sort of enchantment, a way to bring him back from the Darkness.

“How’s he doing?” I questioned, walking closer to Madden and Wilder.

“He calmed down sometime during the night. Willow no longer has him immobilized.” Wilder explained, reaching out to lace his fingers with mine.

Squeezing his hand, I saw the dark circles under each other their eyes and felt guilty I had gotten sleep when they hadn’t. I promised myself that for now on, I would be here, doing my part.

“I need you to get your friend. The Shifter with thedilicudus vis.” Willow spoke, her voice soft for the first time since we had brought Demetrius to the castle.

“Why? He’s not a Shifter, she won’t be able to speak to him.” Madden added, clearly knowing what Willow was talking about.

I wondered if thedilicudus viswas what Eli had been talking about yesterday. The reason that Kalani seemed to have abilities the rest of us didn’t.

“No, she cannot speak to him, but she can speak to the others. I have a task for her. Please.”

Without any other reasons to avoid involving Kalani, Eli volunteered to go find her. While there was a pause in conversation, I decided to ask more about Kalani’s power.

“What is thedilicudus visand why does Kalani have it?” I asked, hoping Willow would be willing to answer our questions.

Moving away from Demetrius for the first time, she wandered over to me, motioning for us to sit down. Following her lead, I sat in front of her, entranced by her words.

“Thedilicudus vis,the distinct power, is the power of Agrum Di Vinum itself. Our land gave the power to several original Divines, their heirs inheriting the power. It allows those who possess the power gather energy from the land, creating power that others do not possess. Each of your bloodlines contain the distinct power, hence why you are the prophesized Heirs, that were able to bring the Divines back home. However, there were others who possessed the power. The Alpha of the Shifters one of them. I believe your friend is a descendant of the original Alpha.”

“What does that mean then? What can she do? And do you know what her creature is?” I asked.

“She can shift into the original creature of Agrum Di Vinum, the shadow wolf. It is more powerful than any other animal in the realm. And I believe, that with her power, she can command the entirety of the Shifters. She can bring them all away from the Darkness and into the shield of the castle.”

Her words came as a shock and I wondered if this was the solution to one of our problems.

“Has Demetrius made progress? Is that why you want to bring more Divines cursed with the Darkness here?” I questioned, trying to follow along with Willow’s words.

“I can feel Demetrius’ essence returning to himself. You can see for yourself that the shadows are slowly fading. Away from the Darkness, they start to return to themselves.” Willow responded and I glanced at Demetrius.

I couldn’t feel his essence like she was claiming, but the shadows were smaller than yesterday. And he wasn’t fighting against Willow’s enchantment anymore.

“So, we’ll bring all the infected Divines here until the Darkness fades from them? How do we defeat the Darkness?”

My brain was swimming with possibilities of how this could all work. If we could get the Shifters inside the castle grounds, it would minimize the numbers of the rest of them. It may take several trips, but with our strength, we could bring all of them here. And then it just left the Darkness.

“We cannot keep them all here.” Willow’s words broke through my thoughts and ruined the plan I had been forming.

“What do you mean? You just said Demetrius is getting better.” Knox countered.

“Better, but not cured. The only way to sever the connection between him and the Darkness is to bring him somewhere the Darkness has never touched.”

I refused to believe that what she was saying was the only option. We couldn’t go down this path again. Not when I knew the repercussions. The three men in the room with me had equally as stunned expressions, none of accepting what Willow was suggesting.

“That can’t be the only way.” I demanded but Willow refused to listen, once again going to her own world at Demetrius’ side.

“The human realm has never been touched by the Darkness. They will all go there.”
