As soon as we stepped inside, her jaw dropped open. “What do you do for a living again, Beau?” I watched her eyes travel over the nice furniture and beautiful decorations, including priceless art, which I was fortunate enough to have in my home.

“I’m in real estate,” I told her. That was good enough for now. “Your room is this way.” I gestured for her to follow me, and she did. “I think you’ll like this room.”

She stepped inside a guest room with a beautiful view of the bay. Decorated in light blues and soft cream colors, it was one of my favorite rooms in the house. “This is amazing.” When she turned to look at me, I saw nothing but awe in her brown eyes.

I’d always loved this house, but suddenly, it felt more like home than it ever had before.

Standing by the window in Beau’s guest room, I looked out at the moonlight glinting off the bay. It was gorgeous, just like the amazing house I was standing in. House probably wasn’t even the right word. This was definitely a mansion. I’d never seen such a beautiful place. From the amazing architecture to the furniture to the décor, this place was impressive. I wished I had an excuse or reason to wander around and check everything out, but since that would be a little strange, I decided to focus on my room since Beau had left me alone.

Seated on the bed, I let my hands roam over the plush blue comforter. The mahogany bed had a classic design that matched the dresser, nightstands, and chest of drawers situated in other parts of the room. The carpet and drapes were a warm cream color, and a couple of blue chairs in front of the window matched the bedding.

To my left, a door was slightly ajar, letting me peek in on the ensuite restroom. I could see a clawfoot tub, as well as a separate shower and spacious sink. I imagined the door I could see within the room was a toilet.

Next to the bathroom door was another door which was closed, and I imagined that was the closet. In my mind’s eye, I envisioned a walk-in closet full of beautiful, expensive outfits, all in my size. Of course, that wouldn’t be the case since I’d just shown up here out of the blue, but it was fun to pretend that I could live in a place like this and have such nice things.

Beau had said he was in real estate, but I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant. Surely, he didn’t just sell houses for a living and make the kind of money that allowed him to live like this. Maybe he was from old money and had received a large inheritance from his parents. I wished I would’ve asked his last name so I could search for him online.

But then, I didn’t even have a phone charger, let alone a toothbrush or deodorant. Sighing, I lay back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. How had I gotten myself into this situation? If only I had stayed on that boat.

If I had, though, I wouldn’t have even met Beau, and as much trouble as this was turning out to be, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t glad I’d met him.

A soft knock on the door had me sitting up. “Yes?” I wondered, all of a sudden, if he had servants. I hadn’t seen or heard anyone else when I walked into the house, but it was so big, it was possible.

The door opened, and Beau stuck his head in. “I have some clothes for you, for tonight, and an outfit for tomorrow. I think they’ll fit you.” He offered me what looked like women’s clothing, which made me want to ask who they’d belonged to, but I didn’t. Maybe he had a sister who visited sometimes.

Hopping up, I hastily stepped over and took them from him. “Thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome. I thought we could go shopping tomorrow, pick up a few things to hold you over until we can get you back to the ship.”

I couldn’t help the smile. I did like the idea of wearing something that belonged to me. “Thanks, Beau.”

“Sure. You should find toothpaste, a new toothbrush, deodorant, all of those sorts of things in the bathroom,” he continued.

“That’s great. I’m so glad to hear that. Thank you.” I sounded like a broken record thanking him over and over again, but I really meant it. “You’ve been so kind to me, and you really didn’t have to.”

He shrugged, and I saw a bit of pink creeping into his cheeks. “I just wanted to make sure you’re okay. Is the room to your liking?”

“Yes, it’s amazing,” I assured him. “I love it. The whole house seems great. Well, what I’ve seen of it.”

“Would you like to see the rest?” he asked me.

“I’d love to,” I replied, setting the clothes down on the bed. “Do you mind?”

“No, not at all,” he said, gesturing with his arm for me to follow him.

We stepped out into the hallway, and he led me from room to room, showing me several bedrooms, almost all of which had an ensuite bathroom, as well as a private library next to a well-appointed office, a few different sitting rooms, a grand dining room, a spacious kitchen with lots of high-end appliances, and a cinema room that made me never want to go to a movie theater again. Outside, he showed me a huge pool with a hot tub.

“Do you get a lot of days where you can swim here?” I asked, standing outside, watching the lights twinkle off the water.

He chuckled. “I wouldn’t if the pool wasn’t heated,” he said. “I prefer the hot tub most of the time, though.”

My eyes went to the space in question. It did look inviting. It was too bad I was exhausted or else I might ask him to try it out. But then, I didn’t want him to think that I was there for any reason other than to accept his hospitality. When that creepy guy at the hotel had assumed we wanted a room for the hour, it had left a bad taste in my mouth. While I did find Beau attractive, I wasn’t one to throw myself at a man, especially not one who’d been so nice. If he didn’t reciprocate my feelings, he’d toss me out on my keister, and then what would I do? Visions of the bear came back to mind. No thanks.

“Are you hungry?” Beau asked as he led me back inside.
