“You can take a shower if you’d like,” he offered. “Get rid of the saltwater.”

“I’m fine.”

I didn’t trust myself to get naked in his presence. As it was, I was already a little overheated. I had to get away from him.

“Macy, wait,” he said.

I stopped and turned around. “What?”

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I shouldn’t have kissed you.”

I scoffed and headed downstairs. That was what he was sorry for? He wasn’t sorry for running out on me? Sorry for making me feel like a cheap whore? No, he was sorry for kissing me. I had a feeling he was sorry for kissingme the assistant. He probably would have kissed me silly if I was just some chick he’d brought out on his fancy yacht.

I dried off the best I could and quickly dressed in my office attire. It was a bit of a bummer no one really got to see my power suit. He had whisked me away before I got to strut around the office. I wasn’t sure what he was doing with this whole yacht thing. With him, I had to believe there was an ulterior motive. This little day out on the yacht was about something. I just had to keep my eyes clear. I could not fall prey to his seduction.

I heard his footsteps outside the door of the room I was in. I froze, waiting to see if he would try to come in. He didn’t. I finished dressing and used one of the new brushes I had found in a drawer. There were toothbrushes, and little bottles of shampoo and conditioner were neatly lined up along with everything else someone would need to stay over.

I cleaned the smudged mascara from under my eyes. There was nothing to do for the lack of makeup. I didn’t pack any along. I was not planning on jumping in the ocean today. I headed back upstairs before he came out of the other room. I needed to get away from him. The man was like my kryptonite. I couldn’t stay away from him. He was way too tempting.

“Nice view, huh?” Jon asked from behind me.

I had found my way to the top deck. “It’s an amazing view.”

“Sometimes, when shit doesn’t feel right, I bring the yacht out and just kind of sit,” he said. “I don’t bring my cell, nothing. I just chill by myself with nothing but the sound of the water.”

I almost felt bad for him. I imagined there would be a lot of pressure on a man to run a company that big and that successful. We stood in silence and stared out at the water. When he was like this, it was so easy to forget about all the bullshit he had pulled.

“We should probably get back,” I said.

If I stayed out here with him any longer, I was afraid things were going to happen. They couldn’t happen. I could not go down that road with him again.

I stayed up top while he took us back to the marina. The ride back to the office was filled with tense silence. I felt a little awkward walking into the office with no makeup and my hair flat. Everyone was going to wonder what we had been doing.

“Looks like everyone is gone for the day,” Jon said.

I was relieved not to have to walk through with everyone staring at me. “I’m going to get my things and go,” I said. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow. I assume we’ll actually be in the office tomorrow.”

“We’ll see,” he joked.

He walked into his office while I collected the few things I brought in. I grabbed the envelope his assistant left. I wanted to brush up on the schedule for the week as well as familiarize myself with his typical routine.

I popped into his office. “I’m going,” I said.

“Macy—”

“Don’t,” I said with a shake of my head.

“Let me say this, please,” he started.

“Look, you don’t have to say anything,” I told him. “We kissed. I wanted it. But that’s all it can be. You put me on edge. You make me feel itchy and edgy and I can’t do it.”

“I want you too,” he said.

“Yeah, I noticed when I woke up in bed by myself.”

He stepped around his desk. “That was a mistake.”

There was a long three seconds that passed before I launched myself at him. His arms were around me, tight as a vise with his mouth practically swallowing my face whole. He grabbed at my clothes while I tore at his. He pushed me back with his nostrils flaring with every breath. His blue eyes locked on mine. There was anger and passion as he stared at me.
