“I think you’re trying to rush something,” she said. “Why do you have to decide if you do or don’t like him right away? Why can’t you just let this evolve into whatever it might be? I don’t know why you are trying to put a label on this.”

“Because we keep having sex,” I said dryly. “I feel like I should know if he’s a jerk. A scoundrel. Whether I’m just being used for sex.”

“You can say no,” she said, laughing. “You don’t have to have sex with him.”

“But Ilikesex with him.” I flashed a grin. “Like really, really like.”

She burst into laughter. “This is why I’m eating ice cream. I’m not getting any, so I’m just drowning my lust in ice cream.”

“Trust me, I think that might be the better option. Ice cream doesn’t talk back or cheat on you.”

“I don’t think you can say he cheated on you,” she pointed out.

“What do I do?” I asked.

“Quit trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist,” she replied. “You don’t know if you want a relationship with him. Just go with the flow. Let your heart lead the way.”

“But what if my heart leads me astray?”

“Your heart doesn’t know how to lead you astray,” she said. “You have to go with it.”

“Thanks. I’m going to bed. I’ll see you in the morning.”

I went to bed feeling more confused than ever. Trisha was right. I was trying to put this thing in a tidy little box. This wasn’t that. I needed to take my time and really think about what I wanted. In Vegas, we ran headlong into something. I wasn’t going to make that mistake again.

The rest of the week flew by. The night before the Olympics, myself and a few members from Team Blue made some posters to pump up the participants.

“What’s going on in here?” Jon asked.

“Nothing,” I said, grinning.

He scowled when he saw one of the posters. “Are you making cheerleader posters?”

“Yes,” I said. “Is that against the rules?”

“No, but I wish I would have thought of it.”

“I guess the blue team is already pulling ahead,” I said with a smile.

“We’ll see about that. I’m headed out for the day. I’ll see you all bright and early tomorrow morning. For what it’s worth, good job. You tried, but you can’t win them all.”

I rolled my eyes. “It’s bad luck to count your chickens before they hatch.”

“I’m that confident in my team,” he said and left the conference room.

“We aresogoing to trounce them,” I said to the two other women with me.

“Damn straight we are.”

In a way, I wasn’t all that excited about winning. If I won, I was going to Vegas with people I barely knew. I was sure it would be fun, but it would be a lot more fun if he was there. If he won, he was going to be in Vegas to do whatever it is he did. The little green monster of jealousy was in my head telling me he was going to be hooking up with whatever woman looked at him. I hated the idea of him going without me. But I wondered if he would go even if his team lost. It was his penthouse. It made sense he would go to supervise.

I wasn’t about to ask him about it. I would just have to wait and see. The competitive side of me was not about to go down without a fight. I liked winning. Who didn’t like to win?

If we won, I would offer my spot to someone else to go to Vegas. The thrill of winning was what mattered.

And I had a feeling it would be pretty amazing to kick Jon’s ass.
