After he left, I jogged upstairs to throw together a bag. Part of me had been planning to crash the party anyway. But it was nice to have an invitation. An invitation from her was what made it even better.

I planned on showing her a good time. The last time we were together in Vegas, it didn’t end well. I had woken up to an empty bed and a massive chip on my shoulder. Not this time. We were flying in together and we were leaving together.

I knew she was probably not the kind of woman to be impressed by everything I could offer her. Materialistic things weren’t a motivator, but I had a feeling she would be just a little impressed with the luxury I could show her.

The penthouse was impressive. It even left me in a bit of awe.

I grabbed my phone and made a call. I was going to roll out the red carpet, so to speak. The blue team was lucky Macy was on their team.

Their prize just got a whole lot better.

Ididn’t believe in fairytales. I lived in the real world. People didn’t fall in love within seconds of meeting each other. Women like me didn’t get the princes. Jon was a prince. He was this ridiculously rich, handsome dude who had been with hundreds of women. He could have anyone. Guys like him didn’t pick girls like me.

I walked into the apartment to find Trisha watching old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.

“How was it?” she asked.

I walked in and flopped onto the couch. “He lives in a freaking mansion! I had no idea how rich he was. Like dirty, rotten, filthy, stinking rich!”

“Tell me!” She clapped her hands together. “I’ve always wondered what the other half lived like.”

“I don’t think he’s in the other half,” I said. “I think he’s more like theone percentor something like that. The views from every one of the four decks of his five-story home are ridiculous. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s spectacular.”

“Does he have a pool?” she asked.

“Oh yes.” I nodded. “Two. Well, like one and a half. The outside one is on the lower deck. It’s one of those cool infinity pools. From that deck, you go inside to the indoor pool and hot tub, but it doesn’t look like you’re inside. The entire wall looks out to the deck and the water, so it feels like you’re outside. He’s got a basketball court and a gym on that floor.”

“I’m loving it,” she said. “Go on.”

“He’s got a theater room with chairs that actually have little fridges in the armrests,” I gushed. “The kitchen is something better than a restaurant. It’s awesome. The house is beautiful and not all that pretentious. It’s definitely luxurious but it’s also comfy. Like the couch in one of the living rooms is totally worn. He’s got some cool artwork, but it’s not highlighted with spotlights.”

“I’m so jealous,” she said with a sigh.

“Of him?”

“Of you!” she exclaimed.

“Me? Why in the world would you be jealous of me?”

“Because you’re going to be living there one day,” she replied.

I laughed and patted her knee. “Now that’s some far-fetched thinking. I have to pack. Our flight is at ten.”

“I can’t believe you won a trip to Vegas,” she said. “Iamjealous of you. He sounds like an amazing boss and soon-to-be boyfriend. How long are you guys staying?”

“We fly back on Monday,” I said.

“Is it just going to be you and the team that won?” she asked.

“Actually, he’s going to come along,” I said.

“Jon?”

“Yep. He asked if I wanted him to go and I said yes. I can’t believe I said yes, but I did.”
