“Hello,” Efrem says in his deep, accented voice.

When his eyes return to my face, a fire dances in their depths that burns away my insecurity. His warm hands find my hips, and he gives a gentle squeeze as he leans in for a kiss.

Heat radiates through my body as his lips press gently against mine, chaste yet filled with a promise that sends my spine tingling.

“You look beautiful,” he states as he pulls back again.

“Thanks.” It comes out breathy as one of Efrem’s hands slides around to the small of my back, and he guides me down the sidewalk.

As soon as we reach the end of the block, he flags a cab.

“Take us to Proclivity,” he says, following me into the back seat as I slide to the far side.

My stomach trembles with anticipation. Is Proclivity a bar? A nightclub?I don’t recognize the name. Then again, I’m not old enough to legally drink, so I’m only familiar with the eighteen-and-over clubs.

“How was your day?” I ask, trying to calm my nerves.

To my surprise, Efrem tenses, and a heat enters his eyes that makes the hair raise on the back of my neck. It’s not the heat of attraction I’m used to but a violent anger similar to what I saw the night he started to fight off Ben’s friends to protect me.

“I would rather not talk about it, if you don’t mind,” he states flatly, making my heart pound.

“Okay,” I say, tentatively reaching across the middle seat to take his hand. “Is… everyone okay?” I ask carefully.

Efrem’s strong, calloused fingers envelop mine, and he gives a gentle squeeze. “Pyotr and his family are safe,” he states.

And though it almost sounds like confirmation, a flicker of intuition nags at the back of my mind.He didn’t just say yes, so who’s not okay?

“You’re sure you want to do this tonight?” I ask, trying to mask my disappointment. But if he’s upset, I don’t want him to feel like he has to spend time with me.

Efrem’s predatory gaze steals my breath away. “I definitely want to do this with you,” he states. “I wouldn’t have called otherwise.”

“Right,” I gasp, my body tingling with sudden anticipation. Pressing my knees together, I try to keep my excitement under control.

Our taxi brings us to midtown and pulls up in front of a towering building with a beautiful glass-door lobby. Chandeliers shimmer through the open wall of windows. It looks like some gorgeous luxury hotel—only the lights are dimmer, more intimate like they might be at a romantic fine-dining restaurant.

My heart lodges firmly in my throat as Efrem escorts me inside. And as he speaks to the tuxedoed man who greets us, I take the opportunity to look around.

I could easily continue to mistake it for some fancy restaurant if the women weren’t so scantily clad. They wear little more than underwear. Some sit at tables, conversing with men over dinner as if it were perfectly normal for their bodies to be on full display.

Others occupy more intimate alcoves. Some alcoves have the curtains drawn for privacy, while others remain open. From the various scenes occurring within, I take it this place isn’t about a culinary experience. The occupants caress each other openly, seeming completely unconcerned if anyone is watching. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many breasts in my life.

My eyes land on three people in one alcove, two women and a man. The man’s pants are down around his ankles. One girl—dressed in a thong and nothing else—strokes his cock with brazen excitement. The other girl’s ass is on full display, her back toward me as she leans over the man. His head tips back against the curved seat’s cushioned headrest to allow her tongue to go halfway down his throat.

Blushing profusely, I turn my attention to what looks like the less-intimate area of Proclivity. Where individuals seem to mingle around high-top tables. In some ways, it reminds me of a singles bar where people might go to meet someone. But it’s unlike any bar I’ve ever heard of.

While the men are dressed in fine suits, their collars unbuttoned and open in a casual yet sophisticated manner, the women wear a variety of outfits—some low-cut dresses that reveal their cleavage, others little more than scraps of fabric that only cover their most intimate parts.

Several eyes turn to focus on us, gazes full of interest as soon as we walk into the vaulted room. And suddenly, I’m intensely worried that someone might recognize me. If I get caught doing something explicit here, at what I can only describe as a sex club, it will obliterate my dad’s public image—if not give him a heart attack outright.

Biting my lip, I draw closer to Efrem, and his strong arm wraps around me, shielding me as he guides me toward a curving set of stairs.

“What is this place?” I murmur, my cheeks flaming as I look up at his chiseled face.

“A swingers club, where people can come to explore their wildest fantasies.” He speaks with easy confidence, completely at home in this opulent world of sex.

“Do those people… know each other?” I ask.

“Some do. Some come here to find sexual partners.” He glances down at me, a hint of amusement blending with the hot anticipation in his eyes. “But no one else will be speaking with you tonight. You are all mine.”
