“Let her go.” Kingston said as I glanced at the arm holding me, knowing who it was. The Moretti Thorn.

“I had hoped you would listen to my requests, but it would seem you didn’t. Not to worry. I have kept my end of the bargain and right at this very moment, your lovely Luca is being drip-fed a poison into his veins that will kill him.” The man said with a chuckle.

“I am sorry to do this, but a contract is a contract and…” Glass shattered behind us as he grunted, the weight of his body falling onto me and I felt a wet, warm liquid hit my neck as Kingston grabbed me, pulling me towards him.

I turned to watch the infamous Moretti Thorn drop to the floor, a stunned expression on his face and a hole in the left side of his head.

“Part of me feels that was anti-climatic for someone who was so feared.” Kingston whispered, echoing my own thoughts.

“I know. We have to get to Luca.” I said, hurrying through the doorway and yanking open the door to find a set of stairs.

A chill went through me as I hit the stone floor beneath, the lighting was dim, and the smell was stale urine, blood, and death.

I saw Luca on the table and rushed to him, ripping the IV out of his arm. He opened his eyes, smiling at me.

“Hey, gorgeous. You have some blood on you.” He said and I sobbed, yanking at the straps as Kingston hurried to help me.

“Luca. We are going to get you out, okay? I am so sorry.” I said, trying to hold myself together as I helped him sit up, Kingston supporting him on the other side.

“Stop what you are doing.” A voice echoed from the darkness, and I slowly turned to see Rocco standing there, a manic smile on his face as he pointed the gun at us.

“This gun has been loaded with armor-piercing bullets. So don’t think I can’t kill you.” He said with a grin. Luca coughed, blood splattering over his chin.

“I would say he only has a few more minutes before the poison takes over. I will enjoy watching him die while you have to watch.” Rocco crooned and I glared at him.

“I am done with this bullshit, Rocco. I don’t understand your motives. You did all this for power?” I could see the small window behind him, hoping that Anatoly would be able to help and see through the body cam.

“Ahh. Not just power. The entire throne. You see I was approached during Alonso’s time when he was too stupid to see the bigger picture. There are those out there more powerful than any of the crime families. Men who are in positions of power who can change the world as we know it and they need someone who can run it all for them. So, I accepted. My mission was to take down each family in the process, beginning with you.” His eyes darted to Kingston who had drifted to the table behind us.

“What do you think you are doing? Put that down.” Rocco snarled and I turned towards Kingston to see him holding a needle with a grin.

“Every good assassin has the antidote somewhere. Who do you think is faster, Rocco? You or me?” Kingston said with a grin and before I could react, Kingston pulled a gun from his side, and shot Rocco in the arm before jabbing Luca in the arm with the needle.

“You will fucking pay for that.” Rocco snarled and I watched in slow motion as he raised his gun at Luca and before I could think, I jumped in front of him as the sound of his gun echoed around the room.

The impact of the bullet knocked me into Luca who grabbed me, eyes wide with fear. Kingston leaped towards Rocco, the sounds of grunting and fists breaking bone were muted as I dropped to my knees, Luca sliding off the table with me.

“No. Aurora! It’s okay, you’re okay. Let’s get this off okay.” He said, undoing the vest. I felt numb as I reached to my side, pressing against my flesh. I stared at the blood on my hand as Kingston rushed over.

“Rocco. He isn’t dead right?” I said, knowing the Russians wouldn’t be happy. Kingston’s jaw ticked as he shook his head.

“Knocked out and handcuffed.” He said, meeting Luca’s eyes above my head before I fell backward, Kingston catching me.

“You’re okay. We’ve got you. Kenji said the ambulance is on the way and Liam is with them.” Kingston said as I started to shake. I felt cold as I looked at Luca, reaching up to smooth the frown from his face.

“Luca. I am so sorry.” I said and he kissed my hand, stopping me from speaking.

“Don’t. Do not apologize, gorgeous. I was born into this world. It isn’t your fault. You stay with us, okay? Why did you have to do that, Ror? That bullet was meant for me.” He choked on a sob as Kingston pressed against my side, trying to stop the bleeding.

“Because I love you and I can’t imagine my life without you. You are my best friend, the godfather to my son. I need you to be okay.” I took a deep breath and coughed, my body feeling heavy.

“Hey. Aurora. Stay awake. Stay with us. You are going to be okay. My love, my Queen. You can’t leave me, can’t leave us now we have you, you hear? I will storm the gates of hell to bring you back.” He said and I felt something wet drip against my cheek. Was he crying?

I tried to open my eyes, but they felt heavy, so I smiled instead.

“I’ll always love you. Tell Caleb and Kenji I love them too. And you Kingston. I love you. Fabian…” I slurred my words as darkness crept in.

“NO! AURORA! WAKE UP, STAY WITH US!” Luca shouted and I tried, I tried to follow the sound of his voice but couldn’t fight the heaviness as it took me.
