She had confessed before leaving that after last night’s situation, she wasn’t going to bother trying again for a while and the selfish part of me got a huge thrill from that.

Fabian had been the one to chase her out, saying she only hovered around him when she stayed home, and he wanted to play his game in peace. Since we were trying to figure out who his new friend is, I opted to be the babysitter and sleuth, Kingston was at home but had asked me to text him when she was done with the date. The man was infatuated with her as I was.

“So, who is this Wizard guy that you have met in the game?” I asked, not bothering to be sneaky about it.

Fabian narrowed his eyes at me for a long moment before shrugging.

“I don’t know his real name. He is a really cool guy that is teaching me about computers. He taught me the basics of writing code and is going to teach me how to hack into computers. It’s cool. He is so badass and his skills in COD are legendary.” His eyes lit up as he talked but I got an uneasy feeling.

“Have you spoken to him directly? Is he another kid like you?” Fabian snorted.

“Of course, I talk to him. Nah, he isn’t a kid. I don’t know how old he is, but he said he was like me when he was my age and he wished someone was there to teach me.” He hesitated, looking a little shy before he continued.

“I told him about what happened. He listens. He understands what it is like to be in a world where violence is normal and doesn’t judge me for it. I know he has his own past too.” He turned back to the screen and started mumbling about being distracted.

I didn’t expect that. Fabian was sharing details with a stranger that he didn’t like to share with us, and this stranger was an adult.

I pulled out my phone to text Kingston.

Luca: The Wizard is an adult. Fabian is talking to him about what happened. We need to figure out who this guy is.

Kingston: I don’t have the tech skills for this. We could see if Theo or Declan can help?

Luca: Yeah, sounds like a good idea. Do you want to contact them and see what they say?

Kingston: Already done. Declan is writing back now.

Luca: *thumbs up emoji*

Kingston: He said they can help and to bring Fabian and his Xbox over for a game. They will do dinner. Tomorrow night if it’s good with Aurora and the girls can chat too.

Luca: I’ll run it by her when she gets home.

I put my phone down as I watched Fabian play. If this guy was another predator, I would personally hunt him down and kill him with my bare hands. I may be a rich mafia kid, but I still knew how to get my hands dirty.

I was the one everyone underestimated. The pretty boy who was focused on his appearance and not the family business, but they seemed to forget, my father was one of Alonso’s top men.

His skills with a knife and gun were passed onto me and I had sat in more than once on his interrogations. I had no issues killing a man and getting rid of the body especially if it meant protecting my family.

Things were tense between my father and me since I said I wouldn’t take Rocco and Nicolo’s side. He was tied to the Mafia family name. I was tied to Aurora.

As if thinking about her conjured her, my phone lit up with a call from her.

“Hey, gorgeous. You okay?” I asked as Fabian rolled his eyes.

“Luca. Could you come and pick me up? I… I want to come home.” Her voice sounded broken, and I knew something was wrong. She seemed scared.

“Of course. Send me your address and I will come and get you.” She hung up and a second later the address appeared on the screen for a place ten minutes down the road.

“Fab, we have to go pick up your mom.” He groaned.

“I can wait. I’m not a baby, G. I won’t burn the house down.” He said and I debated my options. He had been left alone for short periods before but since getting him back, no one liked to leave him alone.

“Okay. I am only ten minutes down the road. Call if something goes wrong or call Kingston. Don’t open the door for anyone okay?” He rolled his eyes again and waved me away.

“Go. Mom clearly needs you if she is canceling early. I promise I’ll behave and be right here when you get back. Don’t leave her waiting, Luca.” He was so serious as he said it and my heart swelled with pride.

This kid loved his mom, no matter how much of a hard time he gave her, and I was proud of him.
