“Then it’s a good thing I never was to begin with.”

I walk away, leaving them stunned. I’m so done with everyone bulldozing into my life and expecting me to follow their rules. I’m done being used as a pawn for everyone’s agenda. I’m just done.

In the hallway, I collide into Arya, who looks just as worse as me.

“Oh my god, Bee. I was looking for you,” she cries, thick tears streaming down her beautiful face and sadness in her eyes. She’s the only family I have left. “Why? Why did you do it? I told you I was gonna be fine.”

“You’re my little sister, Ari.” I rub her tears away and cup her cheeks. “Of course, I would sacrifice anything for your happily ever after.”

“Not at the expense of you.”

“It doesn’t matter. Just know, you’ll finally get your dream wedding.”

“What do you mean?” she whispers at my sad tone, holding my hand tightly. “Say something, Bee.”

I wrap my arms around her small frame and hug her tightly. “I’m always here if you ever need me. I love you.”

She calls my name but I have nothing left to say.

Rosa and Iris rush to my side when I step outside and one of them asks, “What did they say?”

“Nothing that surprised me.” I shrug.

“I’m sorry, Bee,” Iris consoles.

“Fuck them,” growls Rosa. “You have us.”

I give a shaky smile, grateful for the world’s best girlfriends. We slide into the car and I tell Rosa, “I want to get my stuff from the apartment.”

“Are you sure? I can ask someone to bring it,” she suggests.

“It’s okay. He won’t be there.”

“Okay.”

Chapter Sixty-five

BIANCA

Memories of Dash and I walking countless times through the lobby of our building flash like a colorful and bright kaleidoscope before my eyes. My heart would burst, giddy with excitement and a rush of desire, knowing he was waiting upstairs. He would surprise me by coming home early and cooking for us. How fickle are human emotions. You can look at the same memory and either feel happy or sad. It’s the last emotion running in my veins.

Memories are the absolute worst.

One moment, they make you feel like you’re at the top of the world.

And the next moment, they taunt you with a reality of what will never be. Will never last. Was never meant to be.

“Bianca.”

A hand shaking my arm yanks me to the present. I look up to see my friends watching me with concern. The elevator has stopped at my floor.

“We can do this tomorrow, Bee.”

“No.” I tuck my hair away and walk toward the end of the hall. “I want to do this before he returns.Ifhe returns.”

They follow quietly, having my back no matter their protests. With shivering fingers, I insert the key, only for the door to be yanked open from the inside. Startled, I almost stumbled backwards from the force of it. My heart slams against my ribs when my eyes connect with Dash’s.

A broken and lost version of him.
