"Baby girl. You're gonna have to tell me what you want."

"Touch me. Please," I gasped.

"Good girl." His finger snuck into my heat.

"Oh, my God."

"Not God, baby. It's me. Say it," he purred.

I tried to, but I gasped instead as he added another finger and curled it within me, earning another moan. I cupped the back of his neck and pulled him back to me. He took the hint and plundered my mouth just as his hands were plundering another aching part of me. He lifted me off my feet and dropped me unceremoniously on the dresser. He lined his path with hot kisses that had me wriggling. He got on his knees before me and nudged my legs apart. His head disappeared between them before I felt his tongue lapping up my juices.

"Mmm. This part of you tastes so good, baby."

I pulled him back to me, and he wasted no time delving deep. My hand got tangled in his hair, and my moans of ecstasy flowed out unbridled.

"I need to have you, Zoey," he said all of a sudden, leaping to his feet. Before I knew it, he had me backed up against the wall, and the only thing supporting me was his hands hooked under my left leg. He brought his lips to mine, and my whole body thrummed at the sensuality of it all—tasting myself on his lips. Bringing his other hand to rest on the curve of my behind, he struggled with the zipper on his pant. I squeezed my leg shut, feeling a certain throb down there.

"Adrian, Adrian, wait."

"What?" he replied in a raspy voice.

"Do you forgive me?"

I regretted it the moment the words left my mouth as his eyes clouded over and every trace of lust disappeared.

"Is that what this is about? You do know how to ruin the mood," he spat. He pulled away from me, and I felt his absence as a chilly blast enveloped me. "Please get ready. We leave in thirty minutes." All traces of kind Adrian were gone, and the man before me was cold and unfeeling. "Please do not delay. Tonight is a very important one," he said on a final note and left the room just as he had come into it.

When we walkedinto the large banquet hall, I managed to calm my throbbing. As we passed through the huge glass doors, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. The woman who stood before me looked elegant and powerful. In a flowing black dress with a deep side slit, stopping mid-thigh, I looked different. The good kind of different. My hair was pinned up in a beautiful side sweep with a few tendrils left to give it a chic look. My face glowed from wonderful cosmetics and the wonders of an artist who knew what tones and shades would complement me best. I must admit the red lipstick was new and unfamiliar waters, but it did make my lips pop, and I had no complaints whatsoever.

"You coming?" Adrian asked. I had been carried away glancing at my reflection that I completely forgot about my grumpy companion. That was the first time he was talking to me after our little rendezvous.

"Yeah. Sorry."

As I walked up to him, the sound of my heels clicking on the tiled floor gave me a sense of feminine power. I decided that I would blow his mind and be the perfect wife for him. And afterward, we would have a long talk. I was done silently accepting his disrespect. I made a mistake, one I believe I have sufficiently paid for.

I slapped on a smile and grabbed a flute of champagne as we approached a group of people chatting away quietly. "These people are all hospital founders, chairmen, or notable people in the medical world. I'm here for Vitality, and this is very important to me."

He could have led with that, but it wasn't the time for smart-mouthed responses, so I said, "Alright, husband. Best behavior, got it."

"Hello Doctor Emerson. Have you met my wife, Zoey Black? Zoey, this is Doctor Penelope Emerson. She's a member of the board." Our new friend was a beautiful brunette in a red bandage dress that clung to her body.

"Hello, Mrs. Black. I was at the wedding. Meet my date. Malcolm Grant."

My head spun when I heard the name and even more when he turned his stupid face and smirked at me. "Pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Black." He was taunting me. I stiffened as he caught my hands and placed a lingering kiss on my hand. Apparently, I wasn't the only one displeased as Adrian pulled me closer to his side while staring daggers at Malcolm.

"Permit me to steal your husband away for a sec. Come, Adrian, I hear that Doctor Cullen has been looking for you all evening," Penelope said, pulling Adrian along.

"So, I see some things never change, huh? How many months since we broke up, and now you're married?"

"I owe you no explanation, Malcolm."

"Oh, you owe me plenty. Adrian Black, huh? You see, Penelope and I talk. A lot. Like how he's trying to get an approval or a license of some sort tonight. Now how do you think that would go if I made a scene about our past, huh?"

"You wouldn't dare. What do you want? Money?" I grounded out.

"Or wouldn't I? You wound me, love. I simply want a dance. For old time's sake."

I wasn't really a believer in fate, but mine was ill as the band started playing a slow beat. "Dance with me, Zoey."
