“Stop. I don’t want your sympathy. That’s one of the reasons I didn’t want you to see the words. I’m not weak, Ben.”

“Woman, I’m the last man on earth who would ever think that.” His words mollify me a little, because I can hear his sincerity.

“I’m not the woman those words describe either, and I didn’t want you to see them and think maybe you made a mistake by inviting me into your life,” I tell him, laying myself bare for him.

“God, for such a smart woman, you can be so dense, Juniper Sellers,” Ben proclaims, his voice matter of fact and more than a little frustrated. I start to pull away, but he doesn’t let me, So instead, I bury my head into his chest. “Junie, even if they were true and they are absolutely not, I would get on my hands and knees and beg to have you in my life,” he says, and I search for one sign that he’s not being a hundred percent straightforward, and I find nothing.

He means it.

“I should warn you, Ben. My past is not pretty, and I have issues…” I respond, laying it on the line for him.

“Figured that out, Junie. Police academy helps sometimes,” he says with a playful wink.

“It’s a good thing you have a big dick, because your personality sucks sometimes, Sheriff,” I joke, rolling my eyes at him.

Ben kisses my forehead, melting my heart even more, and I give out a little sigh.

“I have baggage too, Junie. We all do. Stop worrying.”

“Even about having lunch with your old girlfriend—who just happens to be my sister-in-law?” I mutter.

“Even about that. Luna is cool and she won’t think of that. I don’t even think of that anymore. It’s just in your brain because I was stupid and careless in my sleep. It doesn’t exist anywhere else, I promise you,” he says, and I let out a big breath. I mostly believe him, but it’s not like it matters. There’s nothing either of us can do about the situation, it just will have to work itself out.

“Are you sure you didn’t hide my silver clasp and lingerie?” I ask him again, mostly just to change the subject and to make him laugh—which I do.

“I didn’t, but if we can’t find them in the morning, I’ll take you to buy some more before your lunch date.”

“You’re so good to me,” I joke, laughing.

“Aren’t you supposed to be sitting on my face?” he asks, causing an all over body shudder and a burst of wetness to coat my thighs.

“You’re insatiable.” I shake my head, but I go up on my knees and straddle him.

“And you love it,” he says, grabbing my hips and guiding me right where he wants, his tongue diving inside almost immediately.

I don’t reply, partly because what he’s doing feels so good, partly because he’s not wrong. I do love it.

I love him.

Ben

Istretch, smiling at the little mewing noise that Junie makes as she squeezes tighter against me.

Satisfaction.

That’s exactly what I have. Things might have moved along fast, but after fucking up and going a year without her, once she gave me an opening all I knew was that I didn’t want to wait any longer and risk losing her again. We’re practically living together. We spend every night together, sometimes at her house, most of the time at mine. I’m wondering when a good time would be to discuss her moving in with me completely, but I’ve learned with Junie you have to pick your battles one at a time.

“I’m hungry,” she mumbles, speaking into my chest, her lips tickling my skin as they move.

“We’ve got two hours before I need to be at the bar. You want to go get something or do we cook?”

“Hold up,” she says moving so that’s she’s sitting up on the bed and looking down at me with her brow furrowed, her hair falling around her face.Cute.“Why do you have to be at the bar?”

“Called a buddy that owns a home security company. He’s coming over to put cameras at your back entrance and better ones at your front.”

“I… You… He…” she blusters. “You called a buddy?” she finally says.

“Babe, you needed better security. I can’t believe you didn’t have a camera at the rear entrance.”
