Cian was in front of me in an instant, tension rolling off his body. My lips parted, and I gasped, unable to finish my sentence.

“Who threatened you?” His voice was low, murderous, and the heat that had been rushing up my neck instantly went in the other direction, down between my thighs. “Was it him? Did he threaten you?”

Now would have been a good time to speak, but I couldn’t get words to form. He was standing so close to me, the scent of him overpowering every rational thought I had. “I—uh…”

He dipped his head down before I could realize what was happening. His lips were fierce against mine, needy, greedy. Wanting to take from me. Take, take, and take. And I let him. I returned his kiss with a ferociousness that I hadn’t realized was hiding inside of me.

I pushed him against the wall, knocking over the boxes where he had placed his drink. My fingers brushed through his hair, and I tugged him closer. He growled against my lips and flipped me so that my front was pressed against the wall. His body was burning against mine, strong in all the right places I had fought so hard to forget. He pressed against me, his cock firm against my ass. What the hell was I doing? Was I about to let him fuck me in the middle of a room filled with a hundred people? I pushed into him, whimpering when his hand ran up my stomach and cupped my breast through my dress.

“Oh, God.” I bit my bottom lip, his hand wrapped around my throat. Gentle. Not squeezing. There was nothing menacing about it. I turned slightly to look at him and moaned at the look in his eyes. Dark, piercing right into my damn soul.

He licked up my neck, sending chills down my arm. “If anyone threatens you again, I will kill them,” he whispered into my ear, then bit down softly on my neck.

Oh, fuck. Why did that have to sound so hot? I mean, I knew it shouldn’t be, but it was. Wait, wasn’t I mad at him right now?

Logic went right out the window the second he moved my dress out of the way, his fingers right on the edge of my panties. “May I?” His teeth dragged against my shoulder and I nodded.

I knew before he even touched me I was dripping wet. He had that effect on me, so unlike Ryzen, and there was no denying it now that his fingers stroked between my folds. I knew this wasn’t right. I knew that I was angry and not thinking straight. I also knew, when he stroked his fingers so gently in and out of me, that I wasn’t going to stop him.

“So wet for me, Nova,” he murmured, his fingers pumping inside of me. “Such a good girl.” His lips devoured mine, and I thrust my hips to match his strokes. I groaned into his mouth, his fingers stroking my clit in a delicious way that had me seeing stars.

This sensation was new to me, this anger-hunger for another person. I had never experienced it in my life, but every cell in my body was on fire, and it was because of him. He stroked my clit, faster and faster, until my legs began to tremble. My orgasm built, a tingling sensation running up my spine all the way to my neck. I came with a whimper, my nails digging into his forearm as wave after wave of pleasure rocked me.

I rested my forehead on the wall, my breath ragged as I tried to get a hold of my breathing. He slid his hand out from between my legs and turned me to face him.

His eyes pierced mine, and I dipped my chin down, unable to handle the fiery look he was giving me. In a matter of minutes, I had done something that I had explicitly promised myself I wouldn’t do. I’d given in. Just like I had wanted to the whole time at Covington’s.

“No, look at me.” He lifted my chin until my eyes met his. We stayed like that for minutes, not saying a word. For every second that passed by, the reality of what I had just done became clearer and clearer.

“I—we shouldn’t have done that.” I swallowed, my tongue moistening my lips. Regret coursed through my veins.

“Why’s that exactly?” He laced his fingers through my hair, making me look him directly in the eyes.

“I’m engaged, Cian. I can’t do this with you. I’m sorry.” I sounded like the shittiest person who ever walked the earth. I wanted to say,Because Ryzen is holding my livelihood in the palm of his hand. I promise I’m not a terrible person. But I said nothing more. I couldn’t say a word. I didn’t know what the repercussions of this would be, but they would not be good. Not for me. Not for our business. And definitely not for Cian.

“How long are you going to keep letting him use you?” Cian’s eyes were cold, and his lip curled in a way that resembled utter disgust.

The heat returned to my cheeks at his accusation. He didn’t need to know that he was right. Especially after I’d just let him fuck me with his fingers in the middle of an old warehouse. I had nobody to blame but myself and my traitorous body. She had a mind of her own when it came to him. But I could not keep messing up like this.

“You don’t understand.” The words barely came out a whisper.

“But I do. I know exactly what he’s capable of. Trust me when I tell you he will take you for everything you have and leave you bleeding in the streets.”

The intensity of the anger in Cian’s voice was sending chills up my arm. This was not supposed to happen. None of this was. I wiggled loose from him and rubbed my hands over my face. Someone was bound to come looking for us. For all I knew, Ryzen had his bodyguards following me everywhere. I needed to get far away from Cian. How could I be so stupid?

“Stop. Just stop.” I straightened out my dress and took a deep breath. “I know you guys have bad blood, but you’re not perfect either. What about what you did with his fiancée?” I froze when the words left my mouth. Because it finally clicked. “Oh, my God. Is that what this is? I’m just a pawn in your little fucked-up game with him, aren’t I? You’re doing the same thing to me that you did to her? You’re—you’re a fucking user, Cian.” I couldn’t stop my hands from trembling.

His jaw tightened, but he didn’t move. He didn’t say a word. The silence between us was deafening to the point I could hear my heart beating. He lowered his eyes to the ground, his fists clenched.

“You’re not even going to try to deny it?” My voice trembled. I was pleading at this point.Tell me I’m overreacting. That I have it all wrong. Typical Nova, always getting the wrong idea. But no, he didn’t say one damn word, and I hated him in that moment.

“Tell Thora I had a work emergency.” His voice was like steel. He turned on his heel and went in the opposite direction of the party.

He was leaving. I couldn’t believe he was just walking away without saying anything.

My throat was dry as I watched him walk away. I pressed my back against the wall and closed my eyes. This entire night had been a mistake. I should have never even come out after dealing with all the pressure from Ryzen. I waited until my breathing slowed back to its normal rhythm before heading back to Juliet.

Thora looked up when I approached, her forehead wrinkled with concern. “Are you OK?” She looked over my shoulder. “Where’s my brother?”
