Cian placed his hands on each side of my head, caging me in place. “That’sthe man you’re engaged to, Nova. He will use you and toss you in the garbage when he’s done. You need to open your eyes to what is really happening.”

Tears ran down my cheeks, and I stifled the sob forming in my throat. It was too much, all of it. I covered my ears with my hands. “Stop it, just stop.”

“No.” Cian’s voice was heated. He dragged my hands away from my ears. “That’s just the tip. He’s involved with worse people now. People who could hurt you with the snap of his fingers. I can protect you if you just tell me what he’s holding over you.” He grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at him.

The muscles in my legs tightened, ready to make a run for it. This was not what I’d been expecting to hear. None of this was. According to Cian, Ryzen was the bad guy, not him. Ryzen was the one who’d stolen his fiancée, ruined their business. And he was involved with, what, the Mob? He couldn’t be. That wasn’t the Ryzen I knew. I hadn’t known him that long, but there was no way he could be capable of those things. But that meant Cian was a liar, and there was a part of me deep inside that didn’t believe that either. I didn’t know who to believe and now I was regretting ever coming here.

“Tell me, Nova.” His grip on my chin tightened. “I won’t let anything bad happen to you.”

His eyes pierced mine. I saw so much in them—pain, anger, desire, and something I hadn’t expected. Fear. Fear for me, or for himself, I wasn’t sure. I shook my head. “I can’t.”

“You don’t believe me?” Cian lowered his head, pressing his forehead against mine.

“I don’t know what to believe.” My voice was a whisper. I was terrified of making the wrong choice, believing the wrong man. The only thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to take his pain away. The pain his father had caused, the pain his mother had put him through by blaming him. The pain Ryzen had caused, whether or not it was intentional. “Everything is a mess.” I shut my eyes and just breathed.

We breathed in and out together, softly, not moving from the position we were in. After a few minutes, something in the air changed. We both felt it, like an electric current running through our bodies. For every exhale of his, I inhaled, until our breathing became in sync in a way that I could only describe as carnal.

My fingers grazed his cheek, running down his scar. He turned his head into my palm and inhaled. I just wanted this all to stop. To live my life the way I wanted. To do the things I wanted to do. I lifted my head, kissing his cheek on one side, then the other where my fingers had just been.

“Nova.” His voice was a growl, and I froze, my lips only centimeters from his. “I didn’t bring you here for this. But you’re asking for trouble.”

I ran my fingers through his hair, wrapping my arms around his neck. “I know,” I whispered. His body was warm against mine and I yelped when he lifted me up, instinctively wrapping my legs around his torso. “What are you gonna do about it?” I teased, unsure if I was about to regret my choice of words.

“What I should have done a long time ago.” His lips captured mine, and in an instant, I was lost in him.

Chapter Sixteen

I tightened my legs around him, his hands gripping my ass, holding me in place against the wall. I knew this was wrong. But how could something be wrong when it felt so right? His lips devoured mine, and I kissed him back with the same intensity. I swirled my tongue against his, loving the taste of him. The softness of his lips, yet his neediness for more, had me grinding my hips against him.

“Is this what you want, Nova?” He trailed kisses up my jaw, across my ear and then down to my neck. “You want me to show you what I’ve been thinking about the last nine months?” He ground his cock into me, and I moaned, throwing my head back. “You want me to fuck that pretty pussy until you cum all over my cock?”

“Oh, God.” I bit down on my bottom lip, running my fingers through his hair. His words were intoxicating, making me lose control. I tugged his head back, capturing his lips once again. His hands were everywhere—on my ass, untying my jacket, throwing off my wig—while I held on for dear life. “Yes—yes,” I whimpered into his mouth. His tongue was soft against mine, teasing, torturing. I wanted more. Needed more. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he lifted me up higher and walked me over to the couch.

He tossed me down, and I giggled at the bruteness of him. The smile slipped from my face when I saw the way he was looking at me. It was like I was his dinner, and he hadn’t eaten in weeks. I squeezed my thighs together, knowing full well that I was already wet for him. He loosened his tie slowly, tugging it off his neck, and tossed it into my lap. I grinned at him, knowing full well what he was thinking, because it was the same thing I was—that night on the bar table at his club when he’d tied it around my eyes so I couldn’t see. I held the tie up in my hands. “Shall I?”

“Absolutely not.” He snatched the tie from my hands and tossed it. “I want you to watch this time. Watch everything I’m going to do you. Look into my eyes as you cream all over my cock until you’re begging me to stop.”

Oh, fuck.

I nodded and moistened my lips. Nobody had ever talked to me this way, and I clung to every word he said like it was my life jacket and I was stranded in the middle of the ocean. He started to unbutton his shirt, and I held my hand up to stop him. “Wait.” I kneeled on the couch and tugged him closer. “Let me.” I glanced up at him as I undid the first button, heat rushing to my cheeks at the smile on his face.

I undid the next one, then the next, and tugged his shirt off, throwing it next to his tie. My breath caught as I took him in. Absolute perfection. I trailed my fingers over his scorpion tattoo, then up to his scars. I couldn’t imagine the fear he must have gone through, and now this constant reminder stared him in the face every day.

He grabbed my hand gently and moved it away, but I shook my head and placed it back where it was. “You don’t have to hide from me, Cian.”

I leaned closer, my tongue flat against his skin as I licked his scar from the middle of his abdomen towards his chest. He weaved his fingers through my hair as I kissed every inch of his scar all the way up to his neck and cheek.

“You’re killing me, Nova.” He tugged my head back.

“Let me have my fun, Cian.” I splayed my hands across his chest. His skin was so warm, it was as if the fireplace was roaring in the background. I kissed down his stomach, softly at first. With each kiss, he let out a deep breath, his stomach muscles flexing. That was the only encouragement I needed to keep going. My fingers shook as they moved lower, my mouth dry as I took him all in. I tugged his belt from around his waist and added it to the pile on the floor. When I reached to unbutton his pants, he grabbed my wrist and made a tsking sound.

“Greedy woman.” His eyes burned into mine and I nodded, not even trying to hide my eagerness.

He lowered his head, his lips capturing mine once again. I was breathless when he let me come up for air, but all I could think of was more, more, more. He pushed me back, and I braced myself on my elbows, my legs open slightly. He kneeled between them, running his hands up my calves, squeezing as he went, then up my thighs. With each firm stroke of his hands, my legs opened wider and wider until he was at the top of my thighs.

“You are so fucking beautiful.”

I wondered if he could hear my heart beating as the noise pounded in my ears. Thump, thump, thump. It took all the self-control I could muster to not push him back and climb on top of him. He unzipped my jeans and yanked them off my legs in one fluid motion, then my panties. My thighs trembled, his eyes devouring every inch of my exposed skin.
