I had met with Dobbs and Delove earlier in the week. It was the same broken record as always. The good news was that at least some of the things I was finding were actually helpful and definitely incriminating. They were building a case against Ryzen, but not even close to getting what they needed on Voledetti. The case against Ryzen was weak though—possible money laundering, but it just wasn’t enough. I almost lost my shit when Delove said that, and I let him know that if he said it wasn’t good enough one more time, I was going to take that necklace and shove it where the sun didn’t shine. He hadn’t been too happy with me after that.

Dobbs had tried to grill Cian on his injury after he spotted fresh blood on Cian’s shirt, but Cian wouldn’t say a word, and when Dobbs looked at me, I shrugged my shoulders. If Cian believed that Kaviathin was serious about hurting us if we spoke about what had happened, then that was good enough for me.

Now I checked my watch and groaned. “I have to head back soon. Valik thinks I’m out for a run. And Jules will be stopping by soon too.”

Cian glanced at Orin, who packed up his bag and headed for the front door. “Have fun, you two.” He winked at me and I grinned, shutting the door behind him. He had done almost a complete one-eighty since I had first met him. I wasn’t sure what had changed. Maybe he’d finally realized that I wasn’t out to hurt Cian. Pretty much the opposite. Especially right now.

“Sit, let me check your bandage.” I walked over to the couch with the basket of gauze, alcohol and other items necessary to clean his wound. He peeled off his shirt and relaxed on the couch. I leaned over him and removed the bandage carefully, his hands rubbing up my thighs as I worked. “It looks good, healing nicely.” I kissed his cheek and taped a new bandage over his wound.

“Mm-hmm. Thank you, Nurse.” His hands roamed over my ass, and I clucked my tongue at him.

“Why, Mr. Blackwood, is that any way to treat a medical professional, sir?” I swatted his hands away and giggled as he huffed.

“Nurse La Roux, I have another ache I need you to take care of.”

“Is that so?” I smirked and straddled him. My hands weaved into his hair, tugging his head back. “Let me guess where it’s at.” His cock pressed firmly into me, a shudder going through my body. I could never get enough of him. My body was always ready, greedy, begging, and by the looks of it, so was his. My lips worked up his neck as I trailed little kisses over his scars, then bit down on his earlobe. “I can’t leave my patient suffering, now can I?”

“No, ma’am.” His chest heaved, and I paid close attention to not touch his shoulder area. God, he looked good enough to eat—hair disheveled, cock hard for me, a playful grin on his face. I stood and stripped off my shorts and panties as I watched him stroke himself. His eyes never left mine as he worked his hand up his shaft, and down, a groan leaving his lips when I stood in front of him naked.

“Come take what’s yours,” he growled.

Yes. All fucking mine. I climbed into his lap, and he rubbed the head of his cock between the lips of my pussy, up and down, over my clit, teasing me in a torturous rhythm that had me panting. I gasped, throwing my head back when he plunged into me, filling me up in such a delicious way that it sent goosebumps up my arms.

“You’re so fucking beautiful like that. Filled up with my cock. I love you so fucking much.” He raised his hips up as I slammed myself down. A frenzy of hands roaming, lips biting, and skin slapping overcame us until we were both moaning. I gripped his head in my hands, my tongue swirling around his. More. More. I needed more. His hand moved up to my throat, squeezing gently, and I moved my hips faster until I was chanting his name. The need to come was overpowering, and I yelled out his name, little black dots in my vision as I came all over his cock.

“That’s right, my beautiful star, scream for me.” He pushed us down to the floor, my ankles on his shoulders, and fucked me with a relentless passion I was growing so used to. “This is my pussy, Nova. I own it. Don’t forget that.”

“Yes, Cian, I love you,” I whimpered and dragged my nails up his back. He let out a guttural moan, filling me up with his release a second later.

We lay on the floor, trying to catch our breaths. “Your bandage got messed up.” I looked at the torn gauze and scrunched up my nose.

“Fuck the bandage.” He chuckled and gripped my hand in his.

Less than an hour later, I ran home, a smile spread from ear to ear. A dark van pulled up next to me, and I froze. It felt like my soul left my body for a moment, and I shook my head when a young guy stepped out and ran into the restaurant I was passing. I looked over my shoulder, worried Kaviathin and his men would pop out at any moment. It seemed that was all I had been doing all week, looking over my shoulder for monsters, but they never showed. Couldn’t say that I was relieved, though. Because I knew they were out there. Waiting.

And I was sick of it.

Juliet was in the lobby when I got home, and I squeezed her in a big bear hug when I saw her.

“You’re glowing.” She swatted my ass when we got inside my apartment.

“Oh, must be a runner’s high.” I tapped my chin.

“Bullshit, Nova. We both know you hate running.” She chuckled. “I’m glad you’re so happy now. I mean, under the circumstances. Cian’s a good guy. But if he hurts you, I will kill him.” She gave me her serious mother face and I pinched her cheeks.

“I know you will. And I’ll be right next to you with my own bat.”

She pulled out a stack of forms and a pen and handed them to me. “I’ve been working with the forensic accountant all week. She’s a beast, fucking love her.” Juliet spread the documents out. “She also has a fraud examiner on her team, and they went through everything with a fine-tooth comb. These are their final assessments on the fair market value of our property and assets. They are also ready to testify. We just need to sign these so they can send them to the insurance company. This is the last step, Nova, so hopefully good news is coming our way.” She held up her fingers in our secret code, and I did the same.

We went through and signed all the documents, making sure we hadn’t missed anything. If this was the final step, then we needed to be thorough.

“Oh, are we still meeting Grams this weekend for brunch? She said to bring Owen too for some reason.” She chuckled.

I placed my hand over my heart. Grams was doing a lot better now. I was doing my best to not show her any stress when we met here and there. She had lots of questions, and I thought she knew deep down something was going on. But luckily, when I told her everything was going great, she didn’t ask any more questions.

“How’s Cian? His shoulder is better?” Juliet stacked the documents on the table, evening them out so the tops were all level.

“Yeah.” I smiled. “Considering everything, he seems to be in good spirits.”
