Hunger flashed in his eyes.

The sharp knock on the door had him jumping back and pulling me off the desk. “One second,” I called. He tied my strings while I righted my shirt. Declan adjusted himself, but his desire was still obvious. He sat in my chair and scooted forward to hide himself under the desk.

“Come in.” I hoped my voice didn’t sound as breathless as I felt.

“Uh, doc? You locked the door.” Spencer’s voice filtered through.

“Oh, right. Sorry. Coming.” I shuffled around the desk. I opened it wide, hoping he wouldn’t think I was hiding anything. I didn’t need him to get any ideas.

“Sorry to cut your lunch short, but Mr. Langer is in room five with Penelope. She’s coughing and has labored breathing.”

“Okay, I’m on my way. Go warm up the x-ray machine. I’m going to want to get a chest image.”

I turned around to see Declan staring at me intently. “God, you're hot when you’re working.”

My eyes grew wide, and I twisted my head to look over my shoulder, but Spencer had already left.

“Are you going back to the ranch?” I couldn’t bear the thought of him coming down here and only getting to see him for a few minutes.

“Only if you want to get rid of me.” He stood.

I kept my gaze away from his crotch, knowing I’d want to have my way with him if I got a glimpse of his massive erection again. “No.”

He smiled. “Well, then I’m all yours.”

He walked closer to me and ran his fingers down my cheek.

I leaned into his caress. “I shouldn’t have a late day today. Meet me at my house?”

“Sure.” He placed a light kiss on my lips.

I wanted more from him but knew it was best if we kept this G rated. I still had work to do, and if he stayed any longer, there was a chance I’d never make it to my exam rooms. I handed him the keys to my house and spouted off my address.

He turned to leave when I remembered why he was there. “Wait. You said you wanted to ask me something?”

“It can wait till you get home. I’ll see you there babydoll.” After a quick kiss, he exited and headed for the front door.

“You might want to fix your hair before you go in there,” Spencer whispered when I passed by on my way to room five.

I froze.Shit.

I rushed to the bathroom as Spencer tried to cover his laugh. I smacked him on the back of the head when I passed behind him again, finally reaching exam room five.

When I entered my house,I was only greeted by one of my dogs, jumping happily now that I was home. Declan’s truck was parked in the driveway, but the house was too quiet for him to be inside. Where had he gone?

I wandered through the house only to discover Declan outside in my backyard playing fetch with my foster dog, Jax.

I opened the sliding glass door, loving how normal this felt—how coming home and having Declan here waiting for me was how I wanted to end every day.

Declan turned and smiled.

“I forgot about these two,” he said, reaching down to scratch Jax’s ears. “That one took one step in the snow and ran back inside.” He pointed to the dalmatian at my feet.

I lovingly pet Rosie’s head. “Yeah, she hates the cold.”

Declan and Jax made their way inside. The border collie was glued to Dec and gazed up at him with what looked like puppy worship. “Seems like you found an admirer.”
