Invitation? I was sure Dad hadn’t shown me an invitation. I would haveabsolutelyremembered that.

“They can’t do that. They can’t get married.” I took a step back, almost stumbling in my haste.

“It’s happening, sweetie. I thought I’d ask you to be my plus one. With all of their financial support over the years, it seems right to pay our respects and wish them well.”

“Dad, I can’t. You know how I feel about them.”

He gave me a hug, and I wrapped my arms tight around him. “I know, honey. But we don’t have a choice. They’re expecting us.”

I swallowed past the lump in my throat. “Who are they marrying?”

“Someone named Victoria. Apparently, after the article in the paper, their parents demanded an immediate wedding. Poor boys. Remind me to stay out of your love life, sweetie. I can’t imagine how they must feel about all of this.”

He didn’t have to worry. I couldn’t imagine anyone in my life besides Thomas and Declan. With our relationship gone, I probably would never find anyone else I loved as much again.

Dad was probably right, and both guys were devastated. Maybe even a little nauseated, like I was. I had believed them when they said they didn’t want to marry Tori. So why did I find it so hard to believe they were telling me the truth when they said they wanted to be with me? They were mine. In my heart, in my soul, I knew. They were mine.

I froze.

Could they still be mine? Was there any way I could stop them from marrying Tori?

Now that the hurt had faded, I understood why they did what they did. Even though I didn’t like it, it didn’t change the way I felt about them. They were the two most important people in my life, and I’d pushed them away. I let the degrading things Randol used to say to me override what I knew to be true. I let my insecurities drive us apart. Both of them loved me. I knew they did.

I didn’t care anymore about Randol and his blackmail.

I wanted them.

I loved them.

And I had to make sure they knew they had a choice.

I grabbed my coat and walked out of my office.

“Alex, where are you going?” Dad called after me.

“To get my men back.”

DECLAN

“We have the breeding program laid out, right?” I asked as I walked into Mikel’s office.

“Yes, Dec. Everything is ready. All you have to do is present it to her and have her look it over. If she wants to have someone go over it with her, just let me know, and I will break everything down like I did for Dr. Henry.”

“Thanks.”

“What’s the plan?” He tilted his head to the side.

I straightened my suit jacket. “We’re going to go to the clinic before it closes and ask for a business meeting. If she lets us in, then we’ll go from there. See how she takes the proposition and then…” I had no clue what I was going to do.

“Pour your heart out to her,” Mikel finished.

“Exactly. We will lay our hearts out for her to see and hope she at least gives us a second chance. Maybe we can start with taking her to dinner.”

“Sounds like a good idea. Are you guys almost ready?” We exited his office and headed downstairs.

Thomas was in his office, packing up a few things to take with us. I poked my head in.“You ready?”

The pounding on the wooden front door echoed through the foyer.
