Keeping my hands on the headboard instead of touching her perfect body is torture, but I prevail. Letting her use me to get herself off is a beautiful sight, and the noises she makes as she bounces on my cock are driving me crazy.

I blink my eyes open, startled when she leans down so our faces are almost touching. “Are you falling asleep while I’m giving you some of my best moves?” There’s a hint of a taunt in her voice, and I try to focus, but it’s hard to think around the haziness in my mind.

Did she just ask me something?

My eyelids are growing more and more heavy—almost impossible to keep open.

“W-what?” I slur, trying to move.

Acacia is still moving on me, I think. To be honest, I can’t be sure. My body feels heavy, and none of my limbs obey me. Then I hear her laughing. “It’s not fun, is it? Does it make you feel vulnerable to know someone has weakened you? Is your mind conjuring up heinous images of what might happen to you?”

When I try to open my eyes, nothing happens.

“If that’s the case, be glad I’m better than you. Nothing will happen to you, I won’t allow it. I take care of what’s mine, and that’s what you are. You. Are. Mine. You can sleep knowing I’ll personally look over you, and when you wake up again, I hope you will recall this. Remember that now we’re even, Kai.” I think I feel her lips ghosting along mine as everything turns black.

ThesmileI’mwearingis as misplaced as sunshine in Hades, but I can’t seem to stop. The memory of Kai’s confusion when he woke up after I drugged him is too comical. As was the way he darted out of bed like the sheets were on fire, and the angry way he shouted my name. True to my word, I didn’t get a wink of sleep and instead made sure Kai was okay, that his airways weren’t restricted, and that no harm came to him.

Both Liam and Gus tried to convince me to get some rest, promising they’d keep an eye on my sedated and drugged god. It’s not that I don’t trust them with his safety, I know they wouldn’t harm him. But I promised him I would be the one looking after him, and that was a vow I wasn’t willing to go back on.

The fight I expected never came. After finding out that I kept watch all night, Kai softened, and all he had to say was, “Thank you.” He didn’t say that he understood, but he didn’t need to. I could see it in his eyes, and I dare say we’re even.

That was a week ago, and now, we’re in his office at Kronos University where he held the emergency Kronos Society meeting for all the Heirs and Heiresses, and officially informed us of our respective Leader’s demise.

During the meeting, Kai hid behind his white mask, successfully keeping his identity hidden. I was surprised that everyone accepted his words with hardly any questions. Is that proof of our training? That we’ve all been brainwashed so much we’ll take orders from a stranger that claims to be in power?

I’m sure it helped that each Leader had taped a video-message for their Heirs. One of those ‘Hey if you’re watching this it means I’m worm food.’ I shake my head at the morbid way of describing my uncle’s last words. But I’ve tried real hard not to think about it. The pain is still all too real and I don’t want to dwell on it—definitely not what it all means.

Of course, all the Heirs had a lot of questions, too many. Even though Lupa, myself, and Gus already knew the truth, we still asked questions. We never talked about it ahead of time, but it would seem strange if we just sat in silence. Still, no one had more questions than Remus and Arthur.

Once the FAQs on how to proceed after an entire group of Leaders were wiped out was over, before each family retreated to their homeland to take care of their funeral arrangements, Arthur was initiated as the new Hatt Leader. Since Gus and I are only Heirs, we weren’t present for the initiation, which I’m happy about. Being at the meeting where we had to pretend we didn’t already know Nikolaos is dead was hard enough.

“Are you sure you’re ready?” Kai asks. The husky undertone to his tenor makes the hairs at the back of my neck stand, and a shiver works its way down my spine as my body immediately reacts to my husband’s question. “There’s no going back once we sign those papers.”

I look at the scroll-like parchment in front of me, and I’m surprised that I don’t feel any hesitation. “I’m sure,” I state, licking my lips. “The sooner we spread the word, the better, I guess.”

Kai’s laugh is throaty, one hundred percent predator as I feel him shifting behind me. “It makes me hard when you’re all business.” He grinds his hardness against my ass, and I arch my back. “But this isn’t a business transaction, is it, wife? This is the big fairy-tale wedding you probably never even wanted. It’s stuff being built, donated, and done in your honor. It’s going to be the ball of the century, and you’ll have to suffer through an entire week of festivities all to celebrate you.”

“W-what?” The way he rocks against me is making it hard to comprehend his words.

“It will be nothing like the modest wedding we’ve already had. In fact, it will be the complete opposite. Designers will vie to be allowed to create your many gowns, and that’s just the beginning.”

I swallow audibly, trying to wrap my head around that. “Really?”

He laughs throatily. “No, not really. Outside the Kronos Society, no one knows who we are, but it will be a grand affair.” My husband’s hands ascend slowly, his fingertips poking through the holes in my top as he moves his way up to my breasts. Once he reaches the heavy flesh, he palms them, holding their weight in his hands.

“Mhmm,” I moan, unable to focus on what we should be discussing.

“Sign, wife.” The seductive whisper of Kai’s voice while he nibbles on the shell of my ear is too much.

Everything is too much. The air is loaded with the sexual tension between us, and I long to unleash it instead of keeping it at bay.

Knowing what I need to do, I reach for the pen, accidentally on-purpose moving my ass up and down his cock while I stretch. “Oops,” I murmur. Then I scribble my signature on the parchment.

“How very clumsy of you,” Kai retorts. Then as soon as I release the pen, he bends over me, forcing my torso down on the table. “I don’t like ink smudges, so you need to stay still.” That’s easy for him to say, but when he moves one hand under my skirt and finds me bare it gets harder to remain immobile while he circles my clit.

“Kai,” I moan.

He doesn’t answer or let up, instead he continues to play with my needy nub while he takes forever to write his name. “There we go, all done. Now we—” He cuts himself off as his phone rings. Pressing me even harder against the table, he reaches for it and I can hear the smirk in his voice as he says, “I have to take this call, so you need to be silent.”
