My husband’s tongue swipes eagerly across the seam of my lips, seeking the entrance I’m quick to give. While our tongues dance around each other, I grip the lapels on his suit jacket tightly. When he rolls his hips and I feel his hardness grinding into me, I can’t hold my moan back.

“Kai,” I say, trying to sound stern, but really I sound wanton instead. “We don’t have time.”

He chuckles before moving back, and my breath hitches as I notice the mischievous glint in his green eyes. “I won, so I get to give you our present.”

I watch as he pulls a black velvet box from his suit jacket and opens it. Inside it are two gold, star-shaped, well, I don’t know exactly what it is.

“Hands above your head,” my husband gruffly demands, and I immediately comply. Then he moves his hands to my breasts, cupping them. “Since we have company, Liam and Gus didn’t feel it would be appropriate for us to put something inside you during an intimate dinner.” He grins wickedly, and I don’t miss how he didn’t include himself in that.

My inner walls flutter, desperately trying to clamp around something at the mention of the egg they forced me to wear during the Hatt Tournament. Hmm, I wouldn’t have been opposed to having that inside me again tonight.

“Oh?” I moan as he pinches my taut nipples through the fabric. Due to the cut of the dress, I’m not wearing a bra, and the silk isn’t diminishing his touch one bit.

Gods, lately my breasts feel more sensitive than usual. The ghost of a touch is all it takes for my cunt to become slick with need.

“But we did all agree it would be fine to decorate those pretty nipples of yours.”

I give a subtle nod, letting him know I agree with the sentiment, not that he needs my permission. While he attaches the first one, I watch with rapid fascination. The last time any of them put anything on my nipples, it stung like hell. This time, however, there’s no bite as he places it around my peaked flesh.

“Kai,” I moan when he wraps his mouth around my breast, his teeth grazing the sensitive skin.

My husband chuckles while attaching the second star, this time without any extra touching. “So pretty,” he rasps. Then, much to my disappointment, he moves my dress back in place, making sure to line the seams up perfectly so my nipples aren’t too prominent, and takes my hand. “Let’s get out of here.”

Before joining the others, we return to Morgana and Lupa. “Are you guys almost ready?” I ask, smiling around a yawn at the women who look like they’re more than ready. “We’re heading down now.”

“No.” I’m surprised by the vehemence behind that one word, and I look over my shoulder at Kai. “They have to go down before us.”

My eyebrows shoot up in surprise. “Why? What’s the—”

I watch as Kai’s eyes shutter closed for a moment, and his hand clenches into a fist before he shoves it into his pants pocket. “Because they’re guests in our house, Nereid.” Despite the endearment, there’s only exasperation in his tone. “I’m not going to discuss this with you while we have guests.”

My mouth opens, but before I can form any words, Morgana straightens. “Of course. We understand.” She smooths the skirt on her dress and takes Lupa’s hand.

“We’ll see you downstairs,” Lupa says just before they’re out the door.

I don’t say anything until the sounds of their heels are far enough away I’m sure they can’t hear us.

“What was that?” I ask accusingly as I round on Kai. “Why did you force them to go down there before they were ready?”

There’s a tic in Kai’s jaw and his green eyes flash with annoyance. “This is not a sorority, Acacia.” I try not to flinch as he uses my name. “Whether you like it or not, you took a vow to be the Female Ruler. You cannot be playing favorites. Lupa and Morgana are guests, and they can’t just join the party when they feel like it.”

“But—”

“If they don’t like it, Lupa is welcome to leave. However, the rest of us have obligations.”

I suck my bottom lip between my teeth as I consider his words. A part of me is affronted and wants to tell him to lighten up, but I don’t say that. Because I know he’s right and at this very moment, I’m very, very wrong.

“Okay,” I say, trying to keep my annoyance out of my tone. “You’re right.” It shouldn’t hurt me to speak those words to any of my men. We’re a team, we’re on the same side and not fighting each other. Yet I feel like it’s costing me a lot to say those words.

“You may not believe me, Nereid. Hell, you might even be upset with me right now. But you were brought up as a Leader and not a Ruler. Trust me when I tell you that those games will only get us all killed.”

At Kai’s words, I freeze in place and the arm that was stretching towards him falls back at my side. “W-what?” Tripping over the one word causes me to clench my jaw shut. I straighten my back, roll my shoulders, and plaster on a practiced smile. “As you say, husband.” My tone is sickeningly sweet, but I can’t let myself feel the sharpness of his words. We have guests, and whether I like it or not, I have a role to play tonight.

Kai opens his mouth to say something, and I breathe a sigh of relief as his phone vibrates. I watch as he pulls the device from his suit jacket, and curiosity has me stepping closer as his lips turn upwards in a smile. When I reach his side, he shows me the screen, and I burst out laughing as I read the message.

Liam: Everyone is here and waiting. Don’t let Cia’s amazing tits distract you!

“Show time,” I say. Still with my smile intact, I take Kai’s hand.
