“That didn’t sound good,” he said, shaking his head.

“I just feel like my entire life has been upended,” I said slowly, shaking my head, wiping my tears away. “My dad’s not the innocent man that I thought he was.”

“So he was cheating on your mom?”

“Yeah.” I nodded. “He was cheating, and I think there’s more to the story than even Antonio knows. The way my dad was acting, he was nervous. There’s something else going on here, Josh, and I’m going to get to the bottom of it.”

“Callie,” he said, “no, you can’t.”

“Oh, yes, I can. I’m not a little girl anymore, Josh. I’m a woman.”

I stared at Alessandro; he stared at Elisabetta, and she sat in the back of the car looking like the cat that had just gotten the cream. I checked my rearview mirror for traffic and then pulled over to the side of the road.

“You think what?” I stopped the car and unbuckled my seat belt. “You’re my sister?”

“She thinks she’soursister,” Alessandro corrected me. “You can’t say you haven’t ever wondered.” His voice sounded awed, and I frowned as he gazed at Elisabetta indulgently.

“So you think it’s true?”

“Who else has Luisa been fucking, bro?”

“Hmm.” I pressed my lips together and stared at Elisabetta. “But she has sky blue eyes. Papa has brown eyes, and Luisa has darker blue eyes.”

“My mother told me her mama had light blue eyes,” Elisabetta responded, her face haughty as she looked at me. She flicked her hair back, and I studied her face. Her bone structure was delicate. Beautiful. But then I looked at her nose. Roman. Strong. The same as my own and Alessandro’s. The Marchesi nose. Fuck. Maybe it was true.

“So you’re my sister?” I sighed and shook my head. Made sense that I’d have an annoying brat for a sister.

“I think so,” she said distastefully. “Don’t get it twisted. I’m not happy about this, either.”

“What? You don’t want two hot older brothers?” Alessandro asked her, laughing as he spoke. Elisabetta pretended to gag.

“Neither one of you are hot, and if I had to choose, I wouldn’t have chosen you two.”

“You think you can have better brothers than us?” I raised an eyebrow at her.

“I do.” She nodded. “And I bet that girl in the pizza place would have agreed with me.”

Anger coursed through me as she mentioned Callie. I couldn’t believe she’d left me and gone right out on a date with that jock. He was a boy. I could take him out in an instant. I wanted to take him out. But I knew that Callie would instantly suspect me if anything happened to him now. I should have taken him out when I had the chance. I didn’t have to kill him, but I could have had him hospitalized for a few months. Get him out of the way. I wondered if she’d sleep with him. If she did, I’d kill him.

“Antonio, it’s not that serious.” Alessandro touched my shoulder. “So we have a sister, it—”

“What are you talking about?” I frowned at him and shook his hand off me.

“You just growled under your breath.” His eyes pierced into mine. “There’s no need to be so upset.”

“I’m not upset over the brat.” I stared back at Elisabetta, who was gazing at me with something akin to hate. “You are a brat.” I reached back and went to grab her knee but stopped myself. “If you’re our sister, then you’re our sister. We will take care of you.”

“I don’t need you to take care of me.” She shook her head. “I took karate when I was younger. I can take care of myself.”

“I don’t have time for two difficult women.”
