“Why?” I asked him, hoping he wasn’t going to ask me to go into detail about all our coffee products.

“Because you don’t seem to know much,” he said, and my jaw dropped.

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“Are you in one of those special programs?” he asked.

“What special programs?”

“You know.” He tilted his head to the side and smirked. “I bet you’re in one of those work release programs.”

“Work release?” I frowned. I had no clue what he was talking about.

“From a minimum-security prison.” He grinned like he relished the putdown. I could hear myself gasping at his nerve.

“You are so rude, and it’s almost like you want me to—”

“Can you check and see where the coffee beans are from? Are they Arabica beans?”

I let out a deep sigh. I looked over to Delilah and Molly, who were staring at me and the Wall Street banker and trying hard not to laugh.

“Hey, Delilah, do you know where the beans are from?”

“I think they might be from Columbia,” she said.

“Yeah, or Guatemala,” Molly added. “Starbucks has the most delicious Guatemalan beans. Every time I go, I ask them if…” She pressed her lips together. “Oops.”

“So they’re Central American?” he asked me.

“Yep.”

“I prefer African beans. Do you have any?”

“Are you joking?”

“Do I look like I’m joking?”

“Hold on.”

I took a deep breath and walked over to the side.

“This guy is getting on my nerves,” I whispered to Delilah and Molly. “Like, seriously, if he doesn’t watch it, I’m going to grab some black coffee and throw it all over his brand-new suit.”

“You can’t do that,” Delilah said. “What if he sues us for millions of dollars?”

“We don’t have millions of dollars.”

“What if he sues Charlotte for millions of dollars and then we’re out of a job and—”

“I know. I’m not going to do it. He’s just so annoying.”

“He’s kind of cute, though,” Molly said, and I just stared at her.

“Sorry, but he’s bangable with a capitalB.”

“You can have him.”

“I think he’s more into you.”
