“Yes, that’s why I asked.”

“It’s a little skanky, but if you’re not a little skanky at one point in your life, then who are you, really?”

“That doesn’t make me feel better, but it’s funny.”

There was a knock on the door then, and we all froze. “Hello?” I said. “Maybe it’s just Benedict,” I whispered.

“Ooh, you going to rub him off, too?” Chelsea said, and I just glared at her.

“You can come in,” I said when someone knocked on the door again, and that was when Finn walked in wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. He had obviously just showered because his hair was still damp.

“Hi, girls,” he said, walking into the room. “Harriet, these must be your sisters, the waitresses for the evening?”

I nodded and stood up to introduce them.

“This is my sister Polly, and this is Chelsea.”

“Nice to meet you, Polly. Nice to meet you, Chelsea.”

“Nice to meet you, too,” Polly said with a smile. Chelsea just gawked at him.

“Okay, I get it,” she said, grinning at me. “I would totally be a skank for those blue eyes as well.” I stared at her in shock, and she just giggled. I’d never been more mortified.

“Well, well, well, Harriet, not only do your sisters look like you, they seem to have similar personalities.” Finn looked like the cat that had just eaten the canary, and I could feel myself blushing.

“I’m going to take that as a compliment,” Chelsea said with an impish grin. “I think Harriet is the best sister in the world.”

“And you also think she’s the best chef?” he asked her, and she blushed.

“Well, I wouldn’t say the best chef, but that’s because I’ve eaten at some excellent restaurants,” Chelsea said quickly. Chelsea didn’t love lying, but I knew she didn’t want to rat me out. I also knew she thought I was one of the worst cooks she’d ever met. So did Polly think that? In fact, it was a running joke in my family that I could burn something even if it wasn’t on the stove.

“So, Finn,” I said, “shall we figure out what you would like to be on the menu, and I can let you know if it’s going to be feasible in the time allotted?”

“Well, you have five hours to get dinner.”

“I also have to go to the grocery store. I don’t know if we’re going to have the supplies,” I said, “and I still have to get myself acquainted with the kitchen, and I still have to train these two on how to serve properly.”

He stared at me for a couple of seconds, his lips thin. “It’s not going to be an issue, is it, Harriet?”

“Of course not.”

“Well, I have an idea,” he said. “Why don’t you come up with the dinner menu?”

“What?” I said, staring at him in surprise. “I thought you said that there were certain items you wanted.”

“Yes, but I don’t want to ask you to make something you might not be as familiar with.”

As someone who hadn’t been to a culinary institute and who wasn’t a great cook, I didn’t know how complex some of the dishes I liked were to me. Finn said, “You’ll be cooking for twenty people tonight and having to train your two sisters, who are just as beautiful as you, I might add.”

“Oh, we love him already,” Polly said with a grin, and I turned to look at her. She shrugged.
