“You are scary, Jonas. You could very well be the man of my dreams, or you could take one look at me and run to San Francisco. Home of the San Francisco treat.”

“Rice-a-Roni?” I asked. “It’s kind of hard to follow your rambling when you’re drunk.”

Running water sounded, and a bottle of pills rattled. “I think I might have just dated myself. My grandma used to watch TV while babysitting me, and I remember that commercial.”

“We need to focus, babe.” The rambling with Lennox was ten times worse and random when she was drinking.

“Focus on what?” she asked.

“I’ve got a couple of things to handle here, and then I’m going to head your way. Maybe we can come back to Rockton for a little bit. You’re only three or four hours away from me.”

“No,” she cried. “I can’t leave Doc and Marty. It really sucks I quit my job, but the silver lining is I can be home with them now. Oh,” she called. “I have an idea.”

“Uh, what is it?”

“But I haven’t had time to worry about it.”

“Spit it out, babe,” I called. “Maybe it’s good you haven’t had time to worry about everything.”

“Uh, well, what if I came to you?” she suggested. “I can pack up Doc and Marty and take a little vacation to Wisconsin.”

“You’d do that? You just said you needed a month or two to think about me coming to you.”

“Pfft,” Lennox huffed. “I figured if you hate me, I have my own car, and then I can just take a road trip with Doc and Marty until I run out of money.”

“Is that so?” I chuckled. “You’re planning on me changing my mind and then replacing me with Doc and Marty?”

“Uh, well, first off, Doc and Marty will always be number one in my book, but since there are two of them, there is obviously room for multiple number ones if the need should arise.” She yawned loudly into the phone. “And I think I need to go to sleep before I pass out on you.”

“How about I call you in the morning, and we can continue this conversation when you’re not tipsy?” I suggested. I was going to see Lennox, we just needed to figure out who was coming to who. “Call me when you wake up, babe.”

“Okay,” Lennox sighed. “Bye, biker man.”

Well, that was interesting, with an unexpected ending. I just hoped Lennox remembered everything we said and actually drove up here to see me.

Because if she didn’t, my ass would be on my bike, and at her door by dinnertime.

Three years was long enough to wait for Lennox.

She was going to be in my arms by nightfall tomorrow.

Here or in Clinton didn’t matter.

I just wanted her.
