“Did you just decide that?” I laughed. I was fucking happy she was going to move here, but the last time we talked, she was still on the fence about it.

“Pretty much. I’ve been here for three weeks, and I’ve never been so happy in my life. Sure, I know that we’re kind of in the honeymoon phase, but when I watch everyone else around here, they all seem to be in the honeymoon phase still, and they’ve been married forever. I know life isn’t going to be perfect, and we’re not always going to be floating on cloud nine like we are right now, but I know when life does suck, it’ll suck a little bit less because you’re with me when it’s sucking.” She cringed and tipped her head to the side. “That started good, and then it turned into a ramble.”

“Just like in your letters, babe,” I laughed. “You rambled but got to the point eventually.”

“I know life will be hard, but I want to do it with you.”

“Better,” I smiled. I hooked my finger under her chin and tipped her head back. “Now give me a kiss, and let’s go for a ride.”

She leaned up on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to mine. “I’m still terrified I don’t have a job,” she whispered.

“Have a little faith, babe. I have a feeling one is going to fall right into your lap.” I had an idea, but I needed to run it by a couple of people before I mentioned it to Lennox. And even if my idea fell through, I knew Lennox would find a job with no problem.

“You and faith are all I need,” she whispered.

“Then let’s ride.” I threw my leg over the bike, and she climbed on behind me. She wrapped her arms around my waist, and I roared out of the parking lot.

This had become our thing every night after supper. Tonight we hadn’t actually had supper since Lennox and I had tried to find every spot possible to store boxes of mac and cheese.A shit ton of mac and cheese.

When the phone call had come through that Meg and Lennox had gotten into some trouble at the bulk store, King got angry, and I just laughed.

This was life with the Devil’s Knights, and I loved it. You never knew what was going to happen, but no matter what it was, the Knights would always be there.

Lennox pressed her front against my back, and I reached back to rub her leg.

This was what I had missed the most in prison. The freedom to go whenever I wanted and to have the wind in my face and Lennox at my back.

I had wanted this for a long time, and I had finally found it with Lennox. Every time I got on my bike with her, it was my freedom ride.

She had helped me survive the past three years, and I was never going to let her go. If I lost Lennox, then my freedom went with her.

Lennox was my freedom, and I was never going to let her go.
