I didn’t have a chance to finish what I was going to tell him because his body began to move underneath me.

Shift.

The scream came out before I could stop it. There was nowhere for me to go as his body changed. The fur melted away, and his face morphed back to human. His body went back to normal size.

Normal, naked size.

“Are you okay?” I scrambled over to him. He didn’t acknowledge me right away. I tried not to freak out. Moments ago, he was a bear, and now he wasn’t. “Did you shift for a reason?”

“Hey.” His voice was raspy, and he reached for me. “I need to keep you warm.”

“How are you going to do that? You’re naked.”

He cradled my face in his hands and pulled me in for a kiss.

Bibi

“I should have brought Marissa with me to the spa.” Staring at my phone would not make a notification appear any sooner. But I was starting to worry.

“How long since you texted her last?” Tina asked, halfheartedly picking at the fruit and veggie tray. I’d gone all out for girls’ night. Tina and Stephanie were here to film.

“I’ve been texting her since I found the note, which was early afternoon. I understand she’s a grown woman and very capable of taking care of herself.” If Hugo hadn’t confirmed that Bjorn had asked for his truck, I’d think maybe she’d gone on another side quest with Suzanne.

Had she intercepted them? She had to have known I was at the chalet today. And Suzanne had a flair for the dramatic whenever we made moves.

But on the other hand, I’d asked a lot of Marissa this episode, and she had delivered. She always delivered. I had to trust her.

“Hello!” Wendy, Cindy, and Michelle arrived with more snacks and wine, trading hugs with Sunny, Gretta, Laura, Blaire, and Roxy. I got the idea for an impromptu Werewives/Mating Game reunion, but we had a big problem.

Two, actually.

No Marissa, and no Hannah. She hadn’t answered my texts this afternoon, either. I certainly hoped I hadn’t upset her this morning when I told her it wasn’t time to start her episode yet. I hadn’t expected her to be so disappointed when I told her I’d just come to the chalet for a facial.

But she could have run into Suzanne, too. Ugh. This woman was living rent-free in my head, and it was time to send her an eviction notice. I was hoping to unveil some of my new plans tonight while I had everyone here.

“Is everything okay, Bibi?” Wendy asked. She was glowing, and it wasn’t just from the tan she’d worked on during her mate moon. “You seem stressed.”

“The Mating Gamewouldn’t be entertaining if it wasn’t challenging.” I flashed my brightest smile and gave Wendy a hug. “You look amazing.”

“You do too, but you know that.” Wendy looked around. “I missed this place. Wait, where’s Marissa?”

“She’s out with Bjorn.”

Wendy raised a brow. “And you’re not filming that?”

“It was impromptu, and it’s good for her and Bjorn to have some time to themselves.” At least, that was what I was going to tell myself.

Wendy raised a brow. We’d gotten to know each other quite well when she had been my roommate, and she would be able to read between the lines. “Are they still at each other’s throats?”

I sighed. “Every time I think Marissa will admit she’s got feelings for the bear, she blames it on the Hudaknocker.”

“Speaking of the Hudaknocker, there are rumors that it’s missing. That’s impossible, though. Last I knew, it was locked in your office.”

I was not prepared for this conversation tonight.

“Nothing is as cut and dry as it seems.” How would I tell her this? She’d trusted me with her life’s work, and I had no idea where it was.
