His “guy,” we came to learn, is actually a girl called Addison. She had found a trail ten miles long of misdeeds, hidden agendas, and lies that pointed the finger firmly at Noah.

And Jasper.

There were years of Noah blackmailing high-profile figures whose homes and security were handled by HSD. Jasper had granted him access to everything, with Eduardo Diaz acting as the go-between.

It was no small wonder why Ford had needed to take off.

Having handed everything they’d found over to the proper authorities—and leakingjust enoughabout Noah’s dirty deeds to Alex DeMarco’s media outlets to ensure justice was served by the relevant authorities—Vaughn had disbanded his crew upon our return and announced he was taking a sabbatical. At North Star.

Cade had been wholly thrilled at the news if the unrestrained grimace on his face was any indication.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to normal.”

My boy’s voice hits my ears, carrying through the recording studio where he’s jamming with his father and grandfather.

“Or some kind of new normal.” There’s laughter in his voice, putting a smile on my lips. “My normal from before wouldn’t have includedknowingyou guys, let alone getting to do this shit with you.”

Initially, my stomach dips at the reminder that he’s not known his father and grandfather until now, then I register his profanity. I narrow my eyes and am about to step around the corner where I’m eavesdropping to tell my son to wash his mouth out, but I’m saved from making the trip when his father does it for me.

“Mind your mouth, kid!”

I smile proudly when I can just about make out a muffled apology, only for my smile to slip and my eyes to blow wide open with Cade’s follow-up.

“I mean, if it was just us guys, I’d probably be a little lenient, but considering that your mother is listening from the other side of that wall…” he trails off, then howls his signature booming laugh.

I pop my head around the corner with my eyes narrowed. “How did you do that?”

Cade gently deposits his acoustic guitar onto its stand, his eyes never leaving mine as devilment plays across his sincerely gorgeous features. Then he stands to his full height, tilting his head adorably as he makes his way closer.

“There’s a special bond between soulmates, Bam. I canfeelit when your heart is nearby. My senses come alive…”

He slides his arms around my waist, mindful of my arm, when he finally closes the distance between us, pressing a chaste kiss to my mouth. His words whisper across my lips. “Also, there was a mirror behind you.”

I’m unable to stop snorting a laugh when he straightens up, smiling right into my eyes. Happiness is evident on every inch of his face.

“I’ve just put Bella down for the night. She was asleep before Queen Barb sent the letter to Queen Poppy.”

Cade’s eyes fall closed, and he shakes his head as a laugh rumbles from his chest. “Whenwill the obsession with that damn movie quit?”

Answering laughter bubbles up my throat, spilling from my lips at the genuine desire for an answer held within his tone.

“She’s four,” I deadpan. “It’s not lifting any time soon. When Jesse was four, he was Pokémon obsessed for…oh, wait. He’s still obsessed!”

“Am not!” Jesse’s voice calls out behind Cade, and I poke my head around the side of his arm to stick my tongue out playfully at my son.

“You are too! Last month, you asked me to get you a Pikachu plush to bring to Camp.”

His neck pinkens, and his cheeks flush with embarrassment as his father spins around. “If you want to talk embarrassing obsessions, I got you beat, kid. Check this out.”

Cade lifts his left hand, urging Jesse to come closer. Sutton follows, his lips pressed together while silent mirth dances in his dark eyes.

“See here?”

Cade parts his fingers, allowing Jesse to view the Bambi silhouette tattoo between his ring and middle finger.

Our son’s mouth drops open. He raises disbelieving eyes to his father before curling his lip. “The Disney deer?” Incredulity colours Jesse’s voice. “Iknewyou were way more cringe, Dad.”

He shudders dramatically as Sutton chuckles, stepping closer to sling an arm over his only grandson’s shoulders. “Come on, Jess. Sing me my favourite Johnny Cash, and make this old man happy.”
