“Oh my God, it smellssogood.”

I pick up my spoon and dive straight in. A moan of delight escapes my lips, and my eyes fall closed as I savor the divine flavor in my mouth.

When I open my eyes, I find Alex watching me with a grin. “It’s good, right?”

I nod enthusiastically and tuck back in as he picks up his own utensils.

The noise of the customers is the only sound between us until our bowls are empty. I drop my spoon into the bowl and sit back to rub my stomach.

“I think I’m having a food baby.”

Alex mirrors my actions, rubbing his own clearly taut stomach as he deadpans. “I think I’m having Irish twins.”

I catch his laughing gaze as a smile takes over my features. His eyes move along the contours of my face, sending butterflies swarming in the full depths of my stomach until his smile dims as his brows furrow.

I’m about to ask what’s wrong, when a voice behind Alex sends a chill racing along my spine.

ALEX

Christ, she’s beautiful. Inside and out.

If someone told me six hours ago that today would end up being one of the best days I’ve had inyears, I’d have called bullshit.

I walked into Molly Malones, expecting to have a few drinks before heading over to Vaughn to get an update on the brewing scandal, only to get swept up in Reyna.

When she’d slipped to the restrooms, I’d asked Darcy to close the bar off to other customers for a bit and add it to my tab, which she’d done with a smirk.

Except now it feels like those five hours weren’t enough.

I reallydoneed a time-turner!

I feel as though my thoughts are showing plainly on my face until Reyna opens her mouth to speak, only to clamp her lips closed as plain horror mars the perfection of her features.

“Look what the cat dragged in.”

I spin in my seat to find an acquaintance of mine, insurance mogul, Chad Freemont, standing over our table.

“Not your usual scene, is it, Freemont?”

He arches a brow, his eyes flitting to Reyna at my back, and I feel her body stiffen under his steely perusal.

“Christ no, DeMarco.”

I let my eyes fall closed in resignation at Chad’s divulging of my surname. I’d purposefully left it out of our conversation, unwilling to be one of those Wall Street wankers in Rey’s eyes.

I twist my neck around, seeing no recognition in her wide eyes, and a bolt of relief shoots through me.

“Felt like slumming it this evening.” His predatory gaze slides to Reyna, and the sight sees protectiveness well up inside of me before he follows it with, “Seems you did too, friend.”

I fly to my feet, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt to hiss into his face. “Say that again, asshole, and I’ll make sure that you live to regret it. You hear me?”

Chad smirks smugly, shrugging his shoulders as though he doesn’t have a care in the world, and my attention is suddenly drawn to the wall of faces staring at us.

People in the midst of dancing, some in the middle of taking a sip of their drink, every single body in Molly Malones has stopped in their tracks to level their attention upon Freemont and me.

I drop his shirt, stepping back with my hands up, knowing that if I make a scene here and word gets out—which it inevitably will—Henry will undoubtedly cut off my balls and wear them as earrings.
