Hours later, Dylan came fully awake when he heard the sound of the cows mooing and saw sunlight peeking through the curtains. It was past milking time. He figured Ren or one of the other guys had taken care of it. That was good, because he intended to take care of the woman in his bed.

He glanced over and frowned when he saw the empty spot beside him. Had Charm gotten up already? He didn’t recall her getting out of bed, other than at daybreak to go to the bathroom. He blinked. He didn’t recall her coming back, although he was sure she had.

Last night had been wild, exciting, and as far as he was concerned, it had been what both of them needed. Granted there had to be more than sex to their relationship but as far as he was concerned, with the explosive intimacy the two of them had shared all through the night, things were off to a great start.

Damn, he was getting hard just remembering. There were times when he rode her and then times when she’d insisted on riding him. It was as if neither could get enough of each other. It had been his intent to wake up with her in his arms and make love again before starting their day. Obviously, she’d gone to her room to shower and change. Perhaps she would surprise him with breakfast since she claimed she could cook a mean omelet.

Dylan eased to the side of the bed, drew in a deep breath and another smile touched his lips at the scent of lovemaking on his skin, in the bedcovers and in the air. Standing, he decided to shower and dress before searching for his woman. He liked the idea of finding her and hauling her back in here and engaging in morning lovemaking.

He chuckled. When had he become a greedy ass? The answer was ever since Charm had come back into his life, and he intended to keep her. Damn he loved her.

A short while later he was knocking on the guest room door. When she didn’t answer, he figured she must have gone downstairs already. Maybe she was in the kitchen cooking that omelet like he’d thought.

Dylan had made it downstairs when there was a knock at his front door. Figuring it was Ren, he called out, “Come in.”

He was right. It was Ren. He smiled over at the older man. “Morning, Ren.”

Ren looked at him oddly and said, “You seem to be in a good mood.”

Dylan was tempted to tell him just how good a mood he was in after a night like last night. Of course, he wouldn’t. “Any reason I wouldn’t be in a good mood?”

Ren shrugged. “Most men wouldn’t if their woman had left them.”

Dylan looked at the older man strangely, and then when he comprehended what Ren said, he replied, “What are you talking about? Charm’s in the kitchen.”

“No, she’s not.”

Not believing Ren, Dylan called out for her. When he didn’t get a response, he went into the kitchen to see for himself. He even opened the back door and glanced around the porch and saw no sign of her anywhere.

Charm had left? Why? When? Returning to the living room, he saw Ren still standing by the door. “How did you know she’d gone?”

“I saw her leave. It was close to six this morning. I was getting the milking equipment set up. I found it odd that a car was coming up the driveway that early. When I saw Charm come out with her luggage and the young guy load it in the trunk, I figured she was leaving.”

When Dylan didn’t say anything, Ren added, “Maybe there’s a reason she had to leave, Dyl. Have you checked your phone to see if she left any messages?”

He hadn’t checked because he hadn’t known she’d left. “No.” After remembering his phone was upstairs on his nightstand he raced up the stairs to his room. He quickly snatched the phone up and swiped across the screen to find she had left a text message. Anxiously, he opened it.

The moment he read it, a feeling of déjà vu encompassed Dylan. It was so strong it nearly knocked him off his feet. A knot clenched in his belly as anger consumed him. The text was similar to the one she’d sent ten years ago. It said...Last night was a mistake and I don’t want to see you again.

Throwing the phone on the bed, he cursed and called himself all kinds of fool. She had played him and he’d let her. Charm Outlaw hadn’t changed. A part of him had hoped they could put the past behind them and share a relationship he’d thought was meant to be. Only thing, it was quite obvious that whatever connected him to Charm wasn’t meant to be.

After grabbing the phone off the bed, Dylan tried calling her to tell her just what he thought of her asinine text and discovered his number had been blocked...like before. He paced his room, refusing to let her have the last word. After this, he wanted no part of her in his life either, and he was going to tell her so. And no damn blocked number would stop him.

Dylan wasn’t sure where Charm had gone. She had mentioned visiting her brother in Wyoming after leaving here. Had that been a lie? For all he knew she might have caught a plane for Alaska, or gone to visit those cousins she’d been telling him about—the Westmorelands—in either Denver, Montana, Texas or Atlanta. Wherever she was, he would find her, and he knew just the person with the capability to do so.

He stopped pacing and punched in another number. After a couple of rings, Seth picked up. “Yes, Dylan?”

“I want you to find someone.”

“I hate to say we told you so, Charm, but we did tell you so,” Ola said, although rather soothingly.

Charm sniffed a few times and wiped her eyes. “I know but I wasn’t supposed to get caught up in the moment. I got caught up in the seconds, minutes, hours. The entire night. I acted like a horny hussy.”

“Well, what did you expect when you hadn’t been with a man since Dylan? Your body was probably starving for him. Of course you wouldn’t have been able to pull it off. And Ola is right. We tried to warn you that your plan would backfire,” Piper said. “Where are you, by the way?”

Yes, they had warned her, but she figured she knew her body better than they did and had been certain she could handle her plan to seduce Dylan. All it had taken to mess with her plans was seeing him naked and then him using that notorious Dylan Emanuel tongue on her. “I wasn’t able to get a flight out to Wyoming until tonight so instead of hanging around the airport I checked into a hotel.”

“You know what I think, Charm?” Ola asked.
