Chapter five
Angel
The car ride to the hospital is long and quiet. The three of us are deep in thought, and I’m anxious about seeing everyone.
Jax fills us in on what went down during their mission. He’s talking so fast I don’t have the chance to process what he’s saying.
Gabriel was tortured.
Royal’s been shot.
Lucky’s hurt.
King got away…
More bad news, just what we need.
When things go bad, most people can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but that light has been snuffed out for me.
There’s nothing but darkness surrounding us; King’s made sure of that.
My body feels numb, but it feels like there’s a pound of bricks on my chest, making it hard for me to breathe while my world spins.
Everyone will be alright. I tell myself repeatedly as the ringing in my ears gets louder until I can no longer hear anyone around me.
Deep breaths, Angel.
In and out.
Focus on the fact that the guys are alive.
Everything else is just another obstacle for y’all to overcome together.
We can do this.
My mind is having a hard time processing everything.
We are heading two towns over to a hospital that both clubs agreed would be safer than Imperial Beach’s hospital.
Hopefully, away from King’s reach.
It takes over an hour for us to reach our destination, but as soon as Jax parks the truck, Dante and I hop out and rush inside.
A nurse behind the ER desk directs us to the waiting room filled with lingering club members.
I take a look around the room and notice Cassie is missing. My feet move straight to Cruz knowing he’ll be the one with answers for me.
“Where’s Cassie?” I ask nervously, praying they didn’t run into any issues on their way over.
“She went to see Lucky. Sinner is back there with her. They’re only letting two in at a time,” he says, taking his phone out and sending a text. “I’ll let him know you’re here. Royal is still in surgery. We’re waiting on the doc to come out and give us an update.”
“What about my dad?” Dante asks.
Cruz arches a brow at him before answering. “Cain and Zeke went back a few minutes ago to see him.”
Dante gives him a nod then spins on his heels to leave, but before he exits, he turns back to me. “You coming?”
A shot of adrenaline surges through me. “Yeah,” I say, shocked he even asked. I press up on my tippy toes, placing a kiss to Jax’s lips. “Text Dante the minute you have word about Royal.”
