They’re young, handsome, and have their whole lives ahead of them. It wouldn’t be the worst thing not to be tied down by me and this situation.

Eventually they would find a nice girl, settle down and start a family separate from one another. Not this crazy notion I gave them about sharing the same girl. I mean, come on, who does that?

Gabe though? I don’t know how he’d survive that. More blood on King’s hands and the regret of not killing him long ago may put him into a grave soon after.

“I’m sorry guys, but I have to go. It’s my mom we’re talking about,” I say with sorrow.

Royal takes out his phone. “I’m calling Cruz.”

“We need a plan.”

I shake my head. “There’s no time.”

“You aren’t going without us,” Dante says, looking at me like I’ve lost my damn mind. And maybe I have.

“The Sons are almost here,” Gabe says, tucking his phone back into his pocket.

I pull up the address on maps and see that it’s a twenty-minute drive. He knew what he was doing, and we played right into his hands.

“If you’re coming, let’s go. Otherwise, I’m leaving without you.”

Chapter eighteen

Angel

“Like hell you are,” Gabe roars, and everyone springs into action. My mind drifts off, thinking of how scared my mom probably is. The woman who has protected me my whole life is now caught up in the midst of this storm because of me.

“We need guns,” Jax shouts as Zeke and Cain burst through the door. The guys are running around the room like madmen as I stand in shock. My poor mom. She’s given up so much for me, and this is the thanks she gets.

Gabriel pulls a duffle bag from under the counter and sets it on the table. All the guys shuffle to it, loading themselves up with as much ammunition as possible.

I should grab one too, but my feet are frozen in place.

“What is it, boss? What’s happening?” Zeke asks with confusion in his eyes. They move to the table, loading their weapons and tossing magazine clips into a small backpack.

“It’s time. We leave in five,” Gabe says, disappearing into the garage, returning a minute later with more weapons. I watch as he grabs a few grenades and tosses them into the bag. He looks up, noticing me watching with wide eyes. “It’s just a precaution, Sweetheart.”

I nod silently as my eyes drift over to the guys. I should be doing something, right? Preparing to go to war like everyone else? But for the life of me, I can’t seem to care about anything except getting to my mom.

Lucky swings by me, dropping a kiss to my forehead as he disappears down the hall. Dante does the same, and they return a minute later. “All set,” he says as I eye him suspiciously. “Just needed to use the restroom, calm down, Heaven.”

Gabriel’s lips form a tight line as he glares at me. “I’ll take Angel and the rest of you will follow shortly after.”

A string of protest meets my ears, and I roll my eyes. “It makes sense,” I mumble, but no one is listening. King wants to make Gabe’s life hell even more than mine. He wants me out of the guys’ lives, or at least I think that’s how this started. So this could work in our favor.

“He’ll expect me to show up with the guys, not with you.” Gabe nods, but the others are still in an uproar and arguing. They don’t like it, I get that, but what other choice do we have? The guys are too vulnerable around King. He knows them, hell, he’s played a major part in their training.

Gabe steps forward, catching me off guard and pulling me from my thoughts. His strong arms wrap around me as I stare up at him. His eyes are dark, his breathing is ragged, and I hate to say it, but he looks nervous. My gut swirls at the thought. Gabriel is always so sure of himself. I don’t like this at all.

He leans forward, letting his lips graze mine, and places his forehead on my own. He lets out a deep sigh that has me doing the same. “His hate for me is deeper than his hate for you. It’ll be the distraction we need.”

I nod, knowing it’s the best plan of action we can come up with right now.

“It’s the only one I’m willing to take,” he says, pulling me into a kiss. His hands glide around me, and that’s when I feel it. The cold, hard steel of the gun he tucks into my waist.

He pulls away, leaving me breathless.

He slides down to one knee and slips a small gun into my boot. “Just in case,” he says softly.
