“Don’t be too sure about that.” James put his arm around me and pulled me in for a kiss before I had a chance to protest or maneuver.

It was hot, sensual, and soul-melting. When I grabbed my scattered wits and pulled back because Martie was groaning, I felt dazed and very much confused.

“Sorry, don’t do that again.” I elbowed to his side.

“She liked it. Sorry, you missed your chance, unless of course you want to have a threesome. Two cousins and me. I’d be more than happy to accom—”

I moved quickly, jumped off the bed, laptop in hand, and ran to the bathroom where I locked myself inside. “There, that’s better. So, you're still sick and might have pneumonia. It's snowing like crazy here and all I want to do is go home. I wish you’d never talked me into doing this for you. I know I owed you, but seriously.”

Martie looked upset. “I can’t believe you slept with James.”

“What difference does it make? I’m not with anyone, he’s not. I know he’s my boss, but technically not, since I am just temporary, but other than that it shouldn’t matter.” The upset I heard laced in between Martie’s words surprised me.

“So, what now? You guys are going to be stuck together in that hotel for a few days until the snow stops and everything is under control. Are you guys going to—” Her question hung in the air.

I chose to ignore it when I heard heavy metal music playing outside the bathroom door. “I gotta go, your boss is playing loud music at midnight. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, or the next day.”

I hung up and pulled the door open. “Be quiet out there! People in this hotel are trying to sleep.”

James was shirtless when he turned around, playing air guitar. The more I got to know him, watched what he did, and how he behaved, the more he seemed like a lost teenager acting out whatever fantasy ran through his mind.

“Nobody is sleeping in this hotel. This is a couple’s retreat hotel that caters to lovers and people looking to rekindle or add spark to their love affair. The only thing people are doing at this hour is—”

“Don’t you dare say it?” I hurried past him to his phone and turned the sound down, surprised he had a woman on his phone screen.

“Who’s that?”

“Oh, are you trying to be the jealous girlfriend?” He leaned down so his face was inches from mine.

Hands-on my hips, I was offended. “No, I’m not. It’s just a conversation. I was just curious. If you don’t want to tell me, just say so.”

“It's my sister, Eve.”

“Oh, and where is Eve? Does she own Renegade with you?” My heart was beating again as I’d gotten nervous thinking, he had a girlfriend or wife.

“She’s dead, a helicopter accident a few years ago. She was a pilot, she was in flight, and something happened with the helicopter. It lost power, she had nowhere to land it. She tried her best, but it didn't work out and everyone, including her, died that day.”

Horrified by his matter-of-fact statement reciting his family's personal tragedy, I didn't know what to say right away. “I’m sorry, James. Truly sorry.” I didn’t tell him about my fear of flying.

A look of pain passed through his eyes, and then it was gone. “Thanks, it’s okay. It was a few years ago and you can’t change it now. I miss her, though. We were good friends, not just siblings.”

The following morning was hectic. I’d spent more time in bed tossing and turning than sleeping after James mentioned snuggling up together and watching the snow.

Chapter Five

James

Wakingupwashard.Gwen refused to let me lie with her in bed, determined to keep things platonic. After the other night, I wanted more. There were no two ways about it, and one way or another, I was determined to have more. If we weren’t going to have sex, I would at least see her naked.

“Rise and shine Valentine It’s almost time for our massage,” I whispered in her ear.

When she didn't stir, I lifted the blanket a little and slid it down to her waist, determined to have a view. It didn't disappoint as she lay on her back, sound asleep. Somehow during the night, she’d removed her shirt, and I was given a view of Venus.

“Come on beautiful, it’s time to get up,” I called a little louder, sipping my coffee carefully as I looked at her naked breasts.

She moved, the tiniest of twitches, which made me smile as they bounced a little.

“Ugh,” she groaned, and rolled over to her side, exposing the slightest hint of her ass.
