“I must say, it’s unfortunate to hear that your job is not entirely a bed of roses,” Sarah said sympathetically, offering me a listening ear. “What could possibly make it so unpleasant?”
“My boss,” I replied.
Sarah chuckled upon hearing my opinion. “Oh, Mia! You don’t have to face Ethan every day and argue with him all the time,” Sarah said with a chuckle. “Your boss is much more tolerable than Ethan, isn’t he?” Sarah continued to laugh. Her words only served to further anger me. I couldn’t hold back my frustration any longer, so I immediately slapped her shoulder and retorted, “Ethan is my boss!” My words were spoken through gritted teeth, and Sarah’s eyes widened in surprise.
Sarah’s eyes widened in surprise upon hearing the revelation. “You’re working at an investigation firm owned by Ethan?!” she exclaimed.
“Yes, that’s correct,” I replied calmly. Sarah was taken aback by this news. “Good God!” she exclaimed. “Did you know about this before you applied for the job?” she asked in disbelief.
“No, I had no idea. I only found out after I started working there. But by then, it was too late. I couldn’t just leave the job as I had no other option and finding another job was not an easy task,” I explained with a hint of frustration in my voice.
Sarah gazed at me intently and empathetically as I divulged my struggles. “Mia, I understand that facing Ethan every day has become a challenge for you, especially after that night. However, it’s crucial to approach this situation professionally and not let your emotions take over. Quitting a good job is not the wisest decision,” she advised me.
I sighed and leaned back in my chair. “It’s not just about facing him, Sarah. It’s his insufferable behavior that makes me furious every time. I have shared countless good moments with him, but he has the knack of spoiling them with his attitude. It’s infuriating. Ethan happens to be Alex’s best friend, my brother. Alex has warned me to stay away from him,” I explained, feeling a sense of relief as I spoke my mind.
As I finished speaking, Sarah grasped my arm and asked me to recount everything that had transpired since my first day at the office. I began to narrate every detail, Sarah listened intently, and her eyes widened with each passing moment.
Upon finishing my explanation, Sarah suddenly grabbed my neck and exclaimed, “So much has happened and you didn’t tell me anything!”
“All these things happened so unexpectedly that I didn’t even have the chance to tell you,” I replied, trying to calm her down.
Sarah then looked into my eyes and asked, “Are you enjoying your relationship with Ethan?”
I took a deep breath and responded, “He isn’t that bad. Despite his dominant behavior that sometimes makes me furious, I genuinely like him. When we spent a night together, he was so kind and passionate.”
To this, Sarah raised her eyebrows and said, “Mia, a billionaire like him may not be the best option for a long-term relationship. You may have enjoyed being with him, but you have to remember that you’re not the only one in his life.”
Her words struck a chord with me, but I explained, “I understand your concern, Sarah. Ethan assured me that he wants to carry on his relationship with me, and that it’s the first time he’s felt this way about someone.”
Sarah let out a deep sigh before speaking, her tone serious and concerned. “Mia, his assurances can’t make everything right. He’s much older and wealthier than you, and your own brother doesn’t approve of him. How can you possibly maintain a relationship with so many obstacles in your way? He’s also your boss, and it’s not appropriate to have a romantic relationship with someone you work with. Alex’s warning is valid; you should steer clear of him. If you don’t have any other option, you can quit your job and come back to work here at the coffee shop. The owner would be delighted to have you back.”
She continued, “A person with such a volatile demeanor cannot be trusted. He could break things off at any moment, leaving you with nothing. I don’t want to see you end up empty-handed, Mia. Leaving your job may not seem like the best decision, but in the long run, it could be the wisest.” Sarah’s eyes were full of concern and worry as she spoke.
“ I hear your concerns, really Sarah. I know we have such differences in so many aspects of our lives, and my brother doesn’t approve, but when it’s just him and me, I feel seen. I feel safe. ”
“I appreciate your understanding, Mia,” Sarah replied with a nod. “But you need to consider the bigger picture. Ethan’s wealth and power can cloud your judgment, and his age difference can create a power imbalance in your relationship. You don’t want to be caught in a situation where you have no control over your own life.”
“I know,” I said with a sigh. “But my heart says something else. I can’t deny the feelings that I have for him. And I also believe that he truly cares for me. He has been nothing but kind and loving towards me.”
“I understand that, Mia,” Sarah said, placing her hand on mine. “But you need to think about your future. Is this relationship worth risking your career and your reputation? Is it worth the potential heartache and disappointment? You deserve someone who will treat you with respect and love, not just someone who can give you luxurious nights.”
“I know, Sarah,” I said, looking down at my lap. “I just don’t know what to do. I feel so torn between my heart and my head.”
“I know it’s not easy, Mia,” Sarah said softly. “But you have to make a decision. And whatever decision you make, I’ll be here to support you.”
As I spoke to Sarah, I defended Ethan’s behavior, “No, he isn’t that bad, Sarah,” I said, nodding my head. “While his demeanor can be difficult to tolerate at times, overall, I enjoy working with him and being in a relationship with him.” However, as I continued to speak, I suddenly noticed someone standing in front of me with their arms crossed. My heart skipped a beat as I realized it was Ethan. “Oh my goodness,” I thought, “did he hear everything Sarah and I just talked about?”

As I walked towards Mia,she looked startled as she saw me. “Ethan, what are you doing here?” she asked, her voice laced with surprise.
I took a seat in front of her and replied, “This coffee shop is one of my favorites, you know. I come here often.”
Mia seemed nervous and fidgety. I couldn’t help but feel a bit irritated. “So, you were discussing our private matters in public, even though I had assured you everything was fine,” I said, biting my lips.
Sarah, who was sitting with Mia, immediately jumped to her defense. “No, Ethan. Mia wasn’t talking against you in public. She was simply sharing her thoughts with a friend,” she said, staring at me with fury.
