Kieran headed down the steps after making sure his mate was tucked inside his new apartment. Brooklyn had said he needed to get some work done today but had promised not to leave the building.

Once outside, Kieran slipped into the passenger seat of the Bronco. “He good?” Cable asked.

“Yep. Now let’s head to Club Lure.” Kieran was going to scour every club, every seedy bar, and anywhere else a vampire might hang out.

“Are you sure?” Cable asked. “Didn’t you get attacked the last time you went there during the day?”

“He has a point,” Logan said from the backseat. “Don’t think your noggin can take too many more blows.”

Kieran didn’t think it would either, but he had to find that vampire. This time he would watch his own back to make sure no one snuck up behind him. That blow to his head had hurt like hell.

“I have the muscle twins with me.” Kieran grinned. “I’m invincible with you two.”

“Flattery will get you everywhere.” Logan chuckled. “Don’t say we didn’t warn you.”

“Cable will be with me,” Kieran said. “I’ll be fine. I need to know if the bastard is there.” He’d never admit it out loud, but he was worried the vampire would go after his mate again. That was the one thing Kieran wouldn’t allow to happen. “If you’re too delicate to join us, please, by all means, stay in the ride.”

Cable burst out laughing. “Logan, delicate? That was funny as fuck.”

“So glad I entertain you.” Kieran rolled his eyes while he hid his smile. He loved the two like brothers. His wolf pack meant everything to him, especially when his own family had turned their backs on him. It had been Rayne who’d pulled Kieran into their fold and made him feel like he finally belonged somewhere.

Lord knew his family hadn’t made him feel that way.

“Just be careful,” Logan said. “I’d miss your pretty face.”

“I’ll protect you.” Cable snorted. “I’m not delicate.”

“Sure you aren’t,” Kieran said.

“Watch it, pretty boy.” Cable grinned at him.

Kieran growled as he saw the club up ahead and then glanced at the time. Not a problem. He’d sneak in again, only this time no one was clocking him.

Hopefully no one recognized him from last time. Not when he’d met Brooklyn. That had been at night and the club was packed. He was referring to when he’d snuck in during the day.

“So what’s the plan?” Logan asked. “You just want to knock?”

Kieran sat there and watched a delivery truck pull to the curb. “No, wait.”

“Ah, I see where your mind is going.” Cable nodded. “Slip in with the delivery.”

“Damn straight.” Kieran reached for the door handle, ready to leave the car.

“Hold on,” Logan said. “What about security?”

“I can handle them,” Kieran said before shoving the door open.

“Like you did last time?” Logan asked as the twins got out. “We'll go around back. Keep your wits about you, Kieran.”

Nonhumans sometimes slept in the back rooms of nightclubs. Not all vampires belonged to a coven and not all wolves to a pack. Those who held no allegiance pretty much crashed wherever they wanted to or where is might be necessary if the vampire had cut it too close to dawn.

Most independent preternatural had homes, but there were some who lived on the fringes of society, who belonged to no one or lived nowhere in particular.

Kieran was really hoping the one he was looking for was inside, but the owner was very strict when it came to those who used his club as a flophouse. He wouldn’t take kindly to Kieran rolling up in there and trying to haul a vampire out into the sun.

He pulled his hood up and headed toward the entrance. He slipped in, bypassing the tables and chairs that were stacked to the right, and then he headed straight for the back.

“Excuse me,” a low voice said. “Can I help you, pal?”
