“Time machines haven’t been invented yet.” Kieran dropped onto the sofa across from Rayne’s mate. “You wouldn’t happen to have one in your closet?”

“Fresh out of them. Cyrus stole my last one.” Felix turned to face Kieran and tucked a leg under him. “So what’s wrong?”

When Felix had first joined them, Kieran hadn’t trusted the human. After all, Rayne had kidnapped him and tried to force information out of Felix. But now, Kieran liked being around him, loved talking and joking with Felix.

He just wasn’t sure he was ready to admit how badly he’d fucked up. He’d let his mate walk away from him, and now he sat there with his thumb up his ass.

Felix got up then returned with two small plates, each containing a slice of apple pie. “Maybe this will loosen your tongue.”

Kieran smiled, recalling the argument he’d had with Felix a few weeks back over the last slice of apple pie. The human had even tackled him to the floor. Of course, Kieran had let Felix considering he was a lot stronger than the human.

“I met my mate and then lost him.”

Felix frowned. “How do you lose a whole person? I mean, did he run away from you? Did he jump from your ride?”

“Why are your scenarios about Brooklyn ditching me? Am I that bad a person?” Kieran set his plate aside. “I was tracking a vampire who’d just killed a person.” He told Felix what happened in the club.

“So your mating mark didn’t show up until Brooklyn was gone.” His brows went up as his jaw dropped. “What’re you going to do?”

“What can I do?”

Felix picked at the fabric of Kieran’s shirt. “Do you still have his smell all over you?”

“Yeah.”

“Then let the pack find him.” Felix beamed with pride. “I’m such a genius.”

“A genius who used to work for a vampire.” Kieran yanked his shirt over his head. “I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.”

“No need to get naked.” Felix stood, plate in hand. “You can thank me by cooking me an awesome meal once you find your mate.”

“Bet.” Kieran got up and went on the search for his pack. He wasn’t going to rest until he found his mate.

Chapter Three

“So let me get this straight. You banged a guy, and then you didn’t even get his number in case the mating mark appeared?” Cyrus asked as he stood in the garage with a few other pack members.

“No,” Kieran said. “Who does that when it’s a one-off?”

“Clearly everyone but you,” Cyrus said. “You gotta get a phone number, dumbass. We don’t know who our mate is until we sleep with them. Even juvenile wolves know that.”

“You’re telling me you have the number of every guy you’ve ever banged?” Kieran asked.

“No.” Cyrus shook his head. “After some time, I delete the number. But I hold on to it for at least a week.”

Cyrus wasn’t trying to make his friend feel like shit, but damn. The guy needed to catch a fucking clue. Even when Cyrus prayed the person he was having sex with wasn’t his mate, he still lingered just to be sure.

“He’s right.” Cable crossed his arms. “Always get the digits, just in case.”

“I was in pursuit of a vampire who’d just killed someone,” Kieran said between clenched teeth.

“But still stopped for some ass,” Logan, Cable’s twin, said. “I see you have your priorities in order.”

Cyrus could tell that Kieran was trying not to get pissed. Normally Cyrus got a kick out of riling the guy, but even he saw how distraught Kieran was. He should take pity on him, but when would he have this opportunity again?

“Can we focus on finding him?” Kieran asked.

Cyrus snorted. “So now what? You gonna go door to door, sniffing for his scent?”
