“Then come,” Rayne snarled, his voice low and full of lust.

Felix’s hips bucked upward, and he cried out as his orgasm ripped through him, his cock pulsing as he spilled his seed onto his own chest.

That was just the trigger Rayne needed. He slammed into his mate, his orgasm hitting him hard, his cock throbbing and pulsing inside of Felix’s tight ass.

Rayne collapsed on top of him, his heart racing from the force of what they’d just done.

“That was incredible,” Felix murmured.

“It was,” Rayne agreed, kissing his mate’s neck. After a minute, he moved, pulling Felix close to him and rolling over to lie on his back, his mate resting next to him. Felix’s breathing was heavy, his face flushed.

Rayne brushed some of the hair off of his mate’s forehead. “Feeling better?”

“More than better.” Felix sighed as he snuggled closer, draping one leg over Rayne’s thighs.

“Good.” Rayne kissed Felix’s forehead. “Now get some sleep.” He felt his eyes growing heavy. “And maybe, when we wake up, we can have a repeat of that…”

“No way,” Felix said, his voice muffled.

Rayne smiled. “Wimp.”

His mate gave a soft chuckle, and then, a moment later, he was fast asleep.

Chapter Nine

Felix stretched, his toes curling into the soft bed sheets. He blinked sleepily, the world around him still a little fuzzy. He opened his eyes a little more, not remembering where he was at first, until he felt the heat pressed behind him.

The shootout.

Felix had to call Eleazar and figure this out. He refused to believe that the man who helped raise him would put out a hit on him, but there was a tiny bit of doubt creeping into his mind. Eleazar was ruthless, and if he thought Felix had betrayed him in any way… Felix wasn’t sure what to think. Would Eleazar retaliate and try to have Felix killed?

Easing out from under Rayne, Felix sat on the side of the bed. He looked at his right palm, at the intricate details of the mating symbol. It wasn’t as noticeable as it had been when it first seared into Felix’s palm, but it was still very beautiful, especially the wolf in the center of it.

Not wanting to wake Rayne, Felix got up, pulled his underwear on, then grabbed his phone and headed into the bathroom.

Eleazar picked up on the first ring. “Felix.”

The vampire’s voice soothed Felix, something familiar he could latch onto in the craziness. “We were ambushed.”

The silence seemed to stretch on forever. Felix couldn’t even hear Eleazar breathing. “Tell me what happened.”

Felix gave him a play-by-play account of what took place once they arrived at the meeting point. “Tell me you had nothing to do that that, Eleazar.”

His world would be crushed if Eleazar had tried to kill him. Felix looked at him as a father, a protector, something he’d needed when his dad died.

“I swear to you that I had nothing to do with it,” Eleazar answered. “I don’t know who tried to kill you, but it wasn’t me.”

Felix sighed. “This is getting way too complicated.”

“I know, but you are safe for now, yes?”

“Yes.” Now he was just waiting for Rayne to wake up. Felix needed an anchor, someone he could lean on and make him feel safe. “Do you know who wants me dead?” Felix asked.

“No, but I’m going to find out.”

“That’s not your responsibility.”

“You’ll always be my responsibility, Felix,” Eleazar said. “I feel partially responsible for sending you out into the streets to investigate in the first place. I’m going to do some digging, and I’ll get back to you.”
