Everything about Felix was different.

He had never met a human that was immune to his alpha power. And from the moment Rayne had met Felix, he’d wanted to take the guy into his arms and kiss him senseless. Rayne refused to give in to the overwhelming urge to do that. The guy was his prisoner. No way would he ever take advantage of someone, let alone someone as naïve as Felix.

“But that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun with you,” Rayne whispered. He brought the bowl of stew to one of the couches in the living room, took a seat, and ate, watching Felix pace across the room. God, he was sexy. For a human.

Every time Felix rounded the couch, his seductive scent invaded Rayne’s senses and made him want to tackle the guy and fuck him until neither of them could walk. He’d bet Felix was amazing in bed. The thought of being inside of Felix made him want to howl and claim the man as his own. And for the life of him, Rayne couldn’t figure out why.

Felix stopped pacing and whirled toward Rayne. “I’m done,” he said. “Give me the fucking stew.”

Rayne lifted a brow and rested an arm on the back of the couch. “I’m not done yet, pretty boy.”

Felix rolled his eyes. “Just give it to me. I’m starving.”

“Info.”

“Eleazar likes taking candle-lit baths.” Felix held out his hand. “There, you got some information from me. Now hand that over.”

Rayne smirked. “I couldn’t care less what kind of bath Eleazar likes to take. You know exactly what I want.”

“I was just trying to get you off my back,” Felix said.

“It’s not working.”

Felix rubbed his temples. “I swear to god, if you don’t give me the damn food, I’ll—”

“What?” Rayne asked. “What will you do?” He put the food on the coffee table and leaned toward Felix. “You’ll give me the information I asked for, or you’ll get yourself killed.”

“What is with you and constantly making death threats?” Felix asked. “Have you ever thought about a more subtle approach?”

“This is my subtle approach.” Rayne watched as Felix’s eyes slid to the bowl. He felt bad for depriving the guy of food, but Felix should consider himself lucky. This was the mildest form of torture, in Rayne’s opinion. The human knew things and wasn’t sharing, and Rayne had to figure out how to make him talk.

He grabbed the bowl, took a bite, and purposely moaned. “Kieran outdid himself with this. The meat is fork-tender and the carrots just as soft and delicious.”

“Do I have a bedroom here, or are you going to force me to sleep on one of your couches?” Felix asked.

With a sigh, Rayne got up, set the bowl aside, and led Felix upstairs. He opened the guest bedroom door and waved a hand to encompass the room. “All yours.”

No doubt Felix would check the window to see if it would open. It would, but the guy wouldn’t get far. Not when some of Rayne’s men were patrolling the perimeter. Well, they would be as soon as he shot them a text to get their asses home because they had guard duty.

Right now all his men were out hunting for the vampires responsible for the killings. Rayne wasn’t going to let up until they were caught.

And killed.

Any vampire who thought so little of human life that they would take it didn’t deserve to live.

Rayne also wasn’t going to stop Felix if the guy snuck downstairs to eat. He’d known the pang of hunger growing up, and Rayne didn’t wish that on anyone, though he doubted Felix had gone an entire week without food.

His father had starved Rayne in order to keep him in line. He’d even denied Rayne the ability to hunt for his food in the forest, telling his men to keep an eye on his son to make sure he didn’t disobey. That was before Rayne had shot up in size and girth. When he was young, defenseless, and weak.

And Rayne had just tried that same tactic with Felix. To make the human so hungry that he would be compliant. When the realization hit him, Rayne snarled at himself, feeling like the monster his father had accused him of being.

After he left Felix in the room, Rayne went downstairs and put a bowl of stew on a serving tray, all the while texting Kieran and Cyrus to return home. Then Rayne poured a glass of milk and grabbed a few dinner rolls and some butter before heading back upstairs.

He was surprised to see Felix still there. He thought for sure the guy would try to hightail it out the window.

Then again, it was a pretty far fall if Felix tried.

“You’re feeding me, or is this another one of your torture sessions?” Felix eyed him suspiciously.
