He shakes his head.

“I’m not either,” I tell him, smirking as I take a long swig of my drink.

Landmark is a picture-perfect world away from here right now, but home is the last place I want to be tonight.

“You’re unbelievably beautiful,” he says.

He looks at every detail of my face, lingering on my lips before his eyes wander down my body, pausing at my nipples and taking a deep breath at what he sees there. I’m afraid to look—I know it’s obscene. I’m wearing a thin long-sleeve silk blouse and my nipples are fighting to be released into the wild. Preferably as close to his chest as possible. He swallows hard and closes his eyes for two seconds before he opens them and looks down, frowning slightly as he puts his hands on my bare knees.

I stop breathing.

“You’re cold,” he says.

“Not anymore I’m not. Your hands are the size of oven mitts…and warm. Thank you.”

A loud laugh erupts out of him and I stare at him, smiling, feeling like the sun has just come out on this chilly March night.

When he sobers, he looks at me for another long moment before saying, “What else can I do to make your awful day better?”

“Well, I don’t normally wrap my legs around a stranger’s waist…”

He laughs again and damn, is it ever a great laugh.

“No, I don’t either,” he says. He leans in and when his breath warms my ear, my heart thuds violently against my rib cage. “So please tell me your name and then you won’t be a stranger…”

“Scarlett.”

“Pretty.”

“What’s yours?”

“Jamison,” he says.

A hot name for the hottest man.

“What else would you like to know?” he asks.

“I think I’m good with Jamison,” I say, unable to stop the giggle that slips out. “How about you?”

He looks at me, amused, and his head tilts. “Oh, there’sso muchmore I’d like to know,” he says. “But first things first—would you like another drink before…I wrap your legs around my waist? Maybe dinner?”

Again with the thudding heart and heat spiking down my face and chest and well, everywhere.

“Nope,” I say, letting theppop. “I’m ready.”

I wink and his eyes widen slightly, that amused smirk on his face making me even bolder, and he tosses money on the bar.

I don’t even know who I am right now, but when I stand up and tug down my pencil skirt and Jamison stands and towers over me, I look into his eyes and don’t have an ounce of doubt.

No fear, no hesitation.

He holds out his hand and I take it, feeling lit from the inside out when our fingers weave together. When we reach the lobby, his hand shifts to the small of my back and he guides me onto the elevator, pushing the highest floor.

And then all the air rushes out of me when he turns to face me and tugs my body flush against his. I feel like I’m about to drop from the steepest incline on a roller coaster, and I put my hands in his thick, dark, wavy hair, holding on for dear life as he dips and lifts me like I weigh nothing. My skirt rides high as I wrap my legs around his waist.

“You’re gonna turn my world upside down, aren’t you, Scarlett,” he says, his forehead leaning against mine.

“You better believe it,” I say, grinning.
