CHAPTERFORTY-ONE

READY, SET, GO!

SOFIE

I wake up and stretch, opening my eyes to see Theo looking at me. He smiles and I curl into him, my head on his chest.

“Feel better?” he asks.

“So much better. I’m so spoiled, sleeping with you now.”

His fingers skate down my back and my senses go into overdrive.

“Our bed is pretty nice,” he teases.

“It’s your sexy body that makes it so nice.” I reach down and he’s like steel against my palm. “Always ready to go,” I say, kissing his chest and then turning away from him so my back is to his side. He makes a face when I look at him over my shoulder.

“Where’d you go?”

“Come on.” I motion with my hand. “I need you right now, but I don’t want you catching my morning breath.”

“As you were probably able to suss out, I need you right now too.” He nuzzles against my ear, kissing me. “You know I don’t care about morning breath.”

“I know, butIdo.” I laugh.

“You don’t need me to lick you awake, do you? That’s what I was planning, but I felt too guilty waking you up…”

“Maybe lick me to sleep tonight. Right now, I need you to fill me up so deep that I feel the ache of you all day.”

Truth be told, he already did that last night and I’m feeling the ache, but call me greedy, I want more.

He curses against my skin and pinches my nipple, making my anticipation skyrocket. His fingers slide between my legs, and he moans at what he finds.

“Always ready to go…” he says.

“Do you want me with you?” Theo asks as I kiss him goodbye. “I’d feel better if I was with you,” he adds. “You said you didn’t want to go there ever again.”

“No, I’ve got this. Somehow today it feels manageable. I could’ve had them come here, but I want Marlow and Dakota to get their rest. Go get done with your house calls, Dr. Theo. I’ll make dinner for us tonight. Hoping Dakota is feeling better. She’s been so subdued it makes me sad.”

“Okay, let me know if you change your mind. I’ve got some time before my first appointment.”

“I will. I think I’m good though. You loved me up and put me on a different stratosphere, so I’m just kind of floating on a happy cloud now.”

He laughs and I flush, giggling at how goofy I’m being.

“Love you,” I tell him.

“I love you.”

He kisses me and it’s so hard to leave him, but I force myself to get in my SUV, and he shuts the door behind me before moving toward his truck.

While we were getting ready, he told me about going to Grinny’s the night before. I made him tell me every detail and cried when I heard the things they said, how much love I feel from all of them even without being there.

I’m glad he told them without me, and I don’t want him to go through hearing me tell the whole story again either.
