I laugh, seeing it like it was yesterday. “We thought this was the safest place to be since it was so far from the Summit House...”

“Who lives in there now, by the way?” she asks.

“Sutton and Owen.”

“Nice. I wondered if it was still in the family since Grinny is in the Alpine House now.” She makes a face. “How much is Tracy in the picture?”

I shrug. “Enough to make it complicated. Tracy has Owen every other weekend and a couple of weeks in the summer. Sutton’s hoping Owen will enjoy being with her more now that Tracy’s getting a divorce from her second husband.”

“Can’t say I’m sad it didn’t work out with the two of them,” she says. “Maybe she’s changed, but she was always so…”

“Awful?”

She makes another face. “Yeah.”

“I know. If it weren’t for Owen, I’d wish my brother didn’t have anything to do with her.” I grin at her. “I preferred talking about skinny-dipping…”

She takes another sip of wine and giggles. “As I recall, we were just getting to the best part when Granddad came strolling by…”

“You were just starting to come,” I say, huskily.

She coughs, her eyes wide in the moonlight, and she places her glass against her cheek.

“Mm-hmm,” she whispers.

“And so was I…” I don’t care if this is dangerous territory, I don’t want to stop this memory.

I can still see her wet hair streaking across her translucent skin. Her full, perky breasts with the hard rosebud nipples that I couldn’t get enough of. She’d gone to Boulder and gotten on the pill a few weeks before, and I loved being skin-to-skin with her.

“We were in the water near that tree right there.” I point to the cottonwood.

“That tree has gotten a lot bigger than I remember it. If it had been that size back then, we might not have been so scared he’d see us.” She laughs and I join in.

“Yeah, a lot of these trees were still in their scrawny stage. You helped me plant that one, remember?” I take a little detour, hoping it will help tone down the situation in my pants.

“I do remember. You put your hand over my mouth right in time,” she adds, going back to that night.

I shift in my seat, painfully hard.

She’d started moaning as she was contracting around me, and Granddad had stopped and looked around for a minute but then kept walking. It’s a good thing since I was past the point of no return anyway. Nothing could have stopped the orgasm barreling through me.

We’re both quiet for a few minutes, and I wonder if she remembers what I said to her before we got out of the water that night.

Her legs were wrapped around my waist and I was still inside her, our hearts pounding from how good we made each other feel despite the shock of seeing Granddad out here.

Her hands were clasped around my neck and she shivered slightly, so I pulled slowly out of her and walked us toward the bank.

“When we build our home here, we’ll come make love out in the water all summer,” I whispered against her lips.

I kissed her and felt her smile against my mouth.

“And when we have kids, they’ll learn to swim out here. In the winter, I’ll smooth it out into an ice rink for us…and we’ll ride sleds from that mountain right there all the way over the ice.”

“How many kids?” she asked.

“Two? Four?”

“Not three or five?”
