“Will You Marry Me?”

Cassie blinked, taken aback. Then she smiled. “I love it. It’s like the song is the story of how they meet, and the title is actually the ending of the story.”

Zac nodded, looking serious. “Exactly. What do you think of the last verse? Do you think it’s emotional enough?”

She looked back down at the notebook to reread the last verse and sucked in a sharp breath at the sight of the huge solitaire diamond ring he’d somehow, without her noticing, placed in the middle of the page.

“So will you?” he breathed against her neck.

A sob burst out of her as she stared at the ring, lying on the beautiful words he’d written.

“Hey. Hey.” He caught her chin between his thumb and forefinger and turned her head, so she was looking at him. His hazel eyes were so full of love, it made her cry harder. “Not quite the reaction I was hoping for.” He grinned crookedly.

Cassie flung her arms around him and pressed her face to his neck. He held her close, his hands smoothing up and down her back as she cried. After about a minute, she was able to gain control of herself enough to raise her head and press her lips to his.

He deepened the kiss immediately, sliding his tongue into her mouth and making her delirious with the taste of him, as always. But the poor guy had waited long enough for an answer. And more than anything, she wanted to give it. She’d just needed a moment to collect herself. To mentally pinch herself and believe what was happening.

Cassie pulled back and smiled at him through her tears. “You’re like a dream. My personal dream come true. I love you so much, Zac. More than I even knew was possible.” She placed her hands on either side of his face and brushed another kiss against his lips. “Yes, I’ll marry you.” Then she looked him in the eye. “As long as that’s what you really want. Because I don’t need a ring on my finger to be with you. You know that, right?”

A slow grin spread across his face. “I know you don’t. But turns out, I do. I want a ring on your finger. I want everyone to know you’re mine. And that I’m yours. Now and forever.”

“I am,” she said. “I am yours, Zac. In every possible way.”

He slid his fingers through her hair and tugged her down to him. She went willingly. Just like she always would. She’d follow him, and he’d follow her.

And together they would make this journey through life an unforgettable one.
