Page 26 of Tryst's Temptation

While I couldn’t speak for Hanadarko, since I’d never met the woman, let alone worked with her, Mayhem could be abrasive.

“I’d like to at least try.”

“I will speak with her.”

“Thanks, Esencia.”

Thirty minutes later, I left the surveillance room, stepped out of thecasita, and came face-to-face with Tryst.

“Is it true?” he asked.

“I fear it is. The best option is to get Luisa removed from the property posthaste.”

“Press Barrett is making arrangements now.”

“I should travel with them. However, I don’t want to increase Luisa’s level of stress.”

“The solution is an easy one. You are a pilot. By going with them, you can be in the cockpit with Zin.”

“Of course,” I said, nodding. “I should get with Press on the flight plan. I intended to file it myself, but he needs to, as the aircraft’s owner.”

Tryst stepped closer. Our eyes met, and in them, I saw the same warmth and affection I always did. While nothing romantic had occurred between us, whenever we were together, the air around us felt electrically charged.

If only our stars had aligned differently. If we both hadn’t lost the two people we believed were the loves of our lives. If we were closer in age. If I wasn’t the commander of a unit for what was now the largest private security and intelligence firm in the world. And if only he didn’t live on a ranch in Mexico, where he ran a rehabilitation center so near to his heart. There were simply too many “if onlys” for us to consider acting on our mutual attraction.

I knew Tryst felt it as strongly as I did and struggled with it as much as I did.

“Jaicon,” he whispered, cupping my cheek with his palm.

Had I ever experienced a touch that felt so perfect? I couldn’t stop myself from leaning into his hand.

“I know this is unfair of me to say, but being away from you…”

“I feel the same.”

“Jacy, I want to kiss you.”

“I want you to.”

He angled my face and touched his lips to mine. It felt so right yet so wrong at the same time. It had been years since I’d kissed anyone other than my husband. When Tryst coaxed my lips apart and touched the tip of his tongue to mine, I pulled back. I wasn’t ready for this.

“Please, Jaicon, let me know the softness of your mouth, your taste.”

I answered with my tongue, swirling it with his when he kissed me again. Bringing my hands up, I dug my fingers into the flesh on his shoulders and angled my body so I could press against him. When I felt his hardness nestle between my legs, I was jolted out of the momentary spell I was under and pushed away.

“Tryst, I…I need to go,” I said, wishing with everything inside me I didn’t have to, but knowing it was for the best.

“Jacy—”

I shook my head. “Let me go, Tryst.”

“I understand.” He nodded solemnly, almost as if in prayer.

I rushed off in search of Press, who I found coming out of Tryst’s house.

“We’ve decided to go to Napa. There are guesthouses on my parents’ estate, and the security was designed by Burns Butler.”

“Copy that,” I said, already aware of the systems in place both at Press’ parents’ residences and at his own.
