She turned in the opposite direction and walked to the other side of the house. “A covered arbor?” she commented as she passed through.

I nodded.

“Lovely,” she murmured before stepping into my favorite room of the house.

I’d envisioned the master suite to be a sanctuary. It had enough room for an oversized king bed and a sitting area with another double-sided fireplace that opened to another private place to relax on the veranda.

There were two walk-in closets and a luxurious bathing area with a jetted tub designed for two people to enjoy, along with a rectangular-shaped shower with fixtures on either end and a private toilet area.

She stepped out of the room, passing the laundry area and another bathroom on her way back to the kitchen. There, she ran her hand over the leather granite counters.

“It’s as large as the master suite,” she said, again spinning in a circle.

“Two of the most important rooms.”

“Wow, Tryst. This is a dream house.”

I walked over to the courtyard and looked up at the glass ceiling and pointed. “Not a dream to clean.”

She laughed. “It would be a labor of love, though, wouldn’t it? Then again, it all was, wasn’t it?”

“Yes,” I whispered.

“Where is your furniture?”

“I haven’t gotten that far.”

“What a shame.”

“Why do you say it that way?”

“I would’ve dearly loved to sleep here tonight.”

“Perhaps you still can.”

“PerhapsIcan?”

JAICON

Iheld my breath, waiting for Tryst’s response. There were a thousand questions I wanted to ask, starting with, “Did you build this for your wife?” but now, I wondered if I’d gone too far with my implication that I wanted to sleep here with him.

“Jaicon?”

“Right. Sorry. Overstepped. We should probably get back now.”

Rather than walk toward the door, Tryst approached me, crowding me against the wall and pinning me with an arm on either side of me. “I want nothing more than to make love to you. Here. Tonight. Now, in fact. But first, we must talk.”

I tried to dip under his arm, but he caught me, so I rested my forehead on his chest. “Talk.”

He used one finger on my chin to raise my face so I was looking at him. “Tell me why you returned to Mexico.”

“Merrigan told me about the fire.”

He shook his head.

“What do you mean, no?”
