When the minutes passed and he still hadn’t moved, I cleared my throat. “You look bored.”

“I’m fine.”

“If you say so.” I took another bite and cocked my head, watching him and hating the silence. My lips curved as a thought crossed my mind, and before I could stop myself, I said, “Wanna fuck?”

Hudson spun around so fast I thought his head would keep going around. He pinned me with a disbelieving look, and I gave him a devious smile.

“Relax, I was kidding. But itwouldpass the time.”

“You couldn’t have suggested a worse idea.”

“Or we could sit here for hours and hours talking about our feelings.”

“Aaand I was wrong. That’s the worst.”

“Have it your way.” I licked some jam off my thumb, and damn if Hudson’s gaze didn’t drop there to watch. I’d been mostly joking about fucking, but if I thought for one second he’d take my offer seriously, I wouldn’t have minded the rugburn on my knees.

Just to pass the time, of course.

“So that’s the best you can come up with on how to waste a day?” Hudson said, strolling over and taking one of the bottled waters that hadn’t fit in the fridge. He screwed off the top and took a long swallow, and this close I could see the bead of sweat that fell down his neck.

“I didn’t say anything about the day being wasted.”

“Good point. I meant five minutes.”

My eyes narrowed, and I threw my leg out on top of the chair opposite me, trapping Hudson where he stood. “Maybe instead of spewing lies, you could spend the day remembering some of the things you liked about me.”

“Again. Five minutes. But maybe you could focus on putting a shirt on.”

“It’s too hot for a shirt. In fact, you should lose yours.”

“And give you the satisfaction? I’d rather burn.”

Hudson stared down at me with a look I couldn’t quite decipher, and that, combined with his position between my thighs, had my cock stirring. But as soon as my mind acknowledged it, Hudson also seemed to become aware of that fact, and kicked my leg away before getting as far away as the room would allow. He gripped the back of his neck and muttered something to himself, and I figured I should be grateful he didn’t pour the rest of his water on me when he had the chance.

Sighing, I went back to finishing off my bagel and soda, the breakfast of champions, and silence once again fell between us. God, I couldn’t take this all day. There had to be some way to pass the hours and not kill each other.

I should’ve expected Hudson’s solution…

“SPEED.” I SLAMMED my final card into the center pile on the table and smirked when Drew’s lips turned down. Again.

“Fuck you, Montgomery.”

“Gotta be quicker than that, Edwards.”

Drew crossed his arms, looking between me and the pile. “You’re cheating. I don’t know how, but I’m gonna figure it out.”

“It’s impossible to cheat at this game. I’m even letting you shuffle.”

“You can’t win every single round, Hudson. This is bullshit.” He screwed the top off one of the mini bottles he’d bought when we went downstairs to grab a set of cards from the market. A couple of gulps and the bottle was empty. No doubt he was feeling the effects of all that alcohol and that was what was slowing him down.

I didn’t mind, though. I didn’t like to lose.

Drew added the bottle to the growing pile beside him and then scooped up the cards and began to shuffle.
