She could feel the shift in his movements to fevered and unapologetic. And hard. So hard, the bed might actually give. His hands gripped her thighs, as it pounded the wall.

In a head on collision, Alex released in a deep, telling jolt, his cry echoed hers. Their ecstasy wrapped around them as their bodies came hard.

* * *

Restraints still dangling from the posts and blindfold tossed to the foot of the bed, they shared one spoon after the other, working on their second pint. This one topped with marshmallows and tiny teddy bear graham crackers.

With another lick of the spoon, Madison couldn’t be more satiated. “Watch it, Mr. Drake. If you’re not careful, our kids will be namedDecadenceandDessert.”

With so much emotion, he kissed her, his strong hand tender as it rested on her belly. “I need you to indulge. You’re my world, Madison. You and our little ones.” His nose rubbed hers with a laugh. “Apple BlossomandCedar Sage.”

She giggled, popping a marshmallow in his mouth. “Is there anything in the world harder than baby names?”

Alex shook his head. “Not even quantum physics.”

He scooped the last spoonful and fed it to her. “You were named for…”

“My great aunt. Madison Josephine. My mom grew up calling her Auntie MJ.” Smiling, she nibbled a tiny graham teddy bear. “And you?”

Alex pecked her lips briskly. “My mother named me after my father.” He blew out a tired breath. “A man I never knew.”

CHAPTER3

MADISON

“This was just delivered for you, Mrs. Drake,” Damian said, his smile a gentle defiance against his formidable, towering stature.

Having a bodyguard was one thing, but…Mrs. Drake? What am I, his mother?“Madison,” she reminded him again. Who knows? Maybe this hundredth reminder would do the trick.

“One of these days,” he chuckled, his eyes gleaming with an elusive humor. Yet as that fleeting twinkle gave way to a hard-edged demeanor, he changed. Transformed him into someone darker and more sinister.

It was so different from her brother, Jack. No matter how hard the service made him, his naturalness was so lighthearted and gentle. Her heart squeezed every time she thought of him.

His absence had stretched for over a decade now, yet he remained a palpable presence. A comforting whisper in her ear.Always.

A sad smile traced her lips as she glanced down at the envelope.

To the wife of Alexander Jackson Drake

The ink was a fiery, demand-your-attention kind of red. The wax seal was intriguing, a small mystery within itself. TheD—so distinctive.

“What in the actual fuck?” Jordan waltzed in, brandishing a caramel-colored teddy bear by its ear as if it were covered in hazmat. It was backdropped by dozens of its kin, perched cheerily on the table.

Madison secured the cryptic letter in her pocket and smiled wryly. “Gifts. From well-wishers. Strangers mostly,” she admitted. Madison popped the little guy on the nose. “If I get any more of them, I’ll have to open a zoo.”

Jordan set the bear between two others. “Too late.”

Clad head-to-toe in black leather, Jordan was undoubtedly the only woman in existence who would dare show up to a baby shower looking like she’s on break from a dominatrix convention.

“Damian didn’t say you were here.”

“What Damian doesn’t know won’t kill him.”

As an ex-operative and self-appointed shadow, Jordan had a knack for slipping through Madison’s security team like a ghost through walls. Her round-the-clock appearances were both a comfort and a constant headache to the guards.

But this was Jordan—always blurring the lines between friend and foe, showing up unannounced and leaving the pros scrambling. Her antics were infuriating, yet oddly impressive.

Jordan moved along the table, the tips of her ruby-red nails lightly trailing across a procession of baby bottles. She paused at the one labeled with her name. “Isn’t it a little early for your baby shower? You’re only a few months along.”
