Paco chuckled lightly. “Remember how I mentioned that AJ was hacking DGI’s computers when I found him?”

Madison nodded. “Yes.”

“Let’s just say what’s good for the gosling is good for the gander. I hacked him back.”

“Nice,” Jordan said, rechecking the coordinates as she floored it.

Madison’s smile grew. Speed, she loved. Alex chilling into dad-mode and never flooring the gas? Not so much.

“Should I send reinforcements?” Paco asked, suddenly all business. “We have no idea what you’re walking into.”

A determined smile crossed Madison’s face. “We’re going to find AJ’s mom. I think we can handle whatever’s in store. Besides, Jordan has a plan.”

Nevermind that Jordan hasn’t clued me in on it at all.

Paco rolled his eyes, underwhelmed.

Jordan simply smiled. “Talk to you later, boss.”

After hours on the road, they rolled to a stop. Jordan adjusted the firearm in her hand. Damian’s firearm.

Jordan’s left hand remained on the wheel, while her right hand crossed over her lap, concealing the gun from the lone guard’s view.

“What are you doing?” Madison asked.

“Remember when I said I had a plan?” Madison nodded. Jordan shrugged with a smile. “This is it.”

“What?”Is she killing a guard?

Madison held her breath as they approached. Beyond the guard was an imposing and seemingly impenetrable gate. The guard narrowed his eyes.Don’t Fuck with Mewas scrawled across his face in bold, uppercase print. “Can I help you?”

“We’re expected,” Jordan said, her lie as bold as her fire-engine red lipstick.

“No, you’re not.” Hands on his hips, he tapped the gun in his holster. “You’re in the wrong place. Turn around and leave.”

Madison’s heart thumped hard as Jordan downshifted.Oh, my God. Is she going to ram it? In a freaking Mercedes?

“Oh, we’re definitely in the right place,” Jordan declared, her smile wide, her eyes locked, and her voice dripping with badass authority. But she wasn’t looking at the guard.

She was staring at the security camera at one end of the gate.

Madison placed a soft hand on Jordan’s arm. “Perhaps we should go.”

“The only place we’re going is inside.” With a purposeful tone, she announced, “All hail the queen.”

Instantly, the guard’s demeanor shifted. They were granted access along with a, “Have a nice day.”

Madison watched in awe as the gates swung open. It was like when Dorothy left behind her black-and-white house and took her first, bold steps into technicolor Oz.

Which either made JordanToto, orGlinda, the Good Witch of the North. Hmm…tough call.

The grounds were sprawling and immaculate, and the mansion, like Versailles.

Madison looked over at Jordan. “Did you learn some new Jedi mind tricks?” she asked. “IsAll hail the queencode forThese are not the drones you’re looking for?”

Jordan’s gaze locked with Madison’s as she pulled around the fountain to the front door of the house. “First of all, they’re not drones, they’re droids. And secondly, not mind tricks. Spy tricks.” She took a breath. “Call Paco,” she ordered aloud.
