CHAPTER27

MADISON

“I’ve got to get help,” Madison said below her breath.

Madison saw the butler on the ground. She dropped to a knee, and felt his neck for a pulse. His skin was ice cold. “Shit.”

“Where’s that pretty wife of yours?” she heard, peering in the cracked open door to the room.Damian? His weapon was trained on Alex, while a gunmen had a weapon on Stassi, and the other, pointing his Glock to Jordan.

Her heart stopped. Jordan was slumped over the table, unmoving at all.Could she be…

Madison swallowed hard, rushing away from the dining room doors and past the kitchen. Her heart skipped a beat. Please, God, do not let me faint.

Step by cautious step, she reached the front door, a glimmer of hope ignited within her. If she could just reach the car, she could call for help and bring an end to this nightmare.

As her trembling hand grasped the doorknob, it swung open abruptly, revealing a group of menacing figures ready to pounce.

Caught off guard, Madison was quickly grabbed and whisked to the side.

Her eyes widened with disbelief as she locked gazes with the one man she never expected to see in this treacherous situation. Relieved, he wrapped her in a tight hug. “Stone?”

“Thank God you’re alright.” Eye to eye, he studied her. “I was worried for a moment. The alarms--”

“Something’s happening. There are at least three men with weapons. And Jordan’s…unconscious.”

“Let’s go somewhere safe.”

“But Alex...and Jordan, and Stassi—”

“We’ll be able to help them once I contact Paco. Come on.”

Stone swiftly took charge, whisking Madison away to safety amidst the chaos. As they moved to a secure location, Stone himself, a man of commanding presence, sat down opposite Madison, his eyes fixed on her with intense focus as Madison was handed a bottle of water and some crackers. They wrapped around the side of the house to the cellar storm doors.

She stepped inside. The exterior looked unassuming—a dilapidated entrance long ago abandoned and covered with ivy. But as he pried open the door, Madison stepped inside, she was taken aback by the transformation that awaited her.

The interior revealed a different story entirely. Unlike the main house, opulent with old world charm, this wasn’t Auntie Em’s storm cellar.

The once humble façade gave way to a well-weaponized safe house, meticulously designed and fortified. Every corner of the room seemed to bristle with surveillance equipment, displaying a network of cameras, monitors, and advanced technology. It was a stronghold, a fortress in disguise.

In the center of the room stood a solitary chair. Stone sat. He looked too comfortable, as though he’d done this many times before.

“What is this?” she gasped, her voice barely above a whisper, as the realization struck her. The man before her transformed, firing up the system and using an old-school phone as he made a call. He punched a button, activating a speaker phone.

Then, someone answered. “Sunshine Dry Cleaning. How can we brighten your day.”

He’s calling a dry cleaner?

“I have several shirts that need tending to. One might have a hole in it. Is the seamstress around?”

Huh?

“Hold one moment,” the man said.

Madison’s thought of Jordan, face down. “We don’t need a dry cleaner? We need an ambul—”

“You called for a seamstress?” a familiar voice replied.

Her question was instant. “Paco?”
