Edge grits his teeth. “Can we not get into this shit right now? I’ve got a computer system now, don’t I?”

Marrow snorts and shakes his head. “Yeah, because someone else did it for you. If it wasn’t for Cadie, who knows how long your dumbass would be getting robbed because you choose to live like a fucking dinosaur.”

I ignore the tingle that flows through my body when Marrow says my name.

Edge rubs his eyes. “This isn’t really helpful right now,” he growls.

Marrow leans against the wall with his arms crossed and a smug look on his face. “I tried to help for years, but your backwards ass didn’t want it.”

“I really need to get new friends,” Edge grumbles.

“What you need is to figure out how much money they took and how long it’s been going on,” Marrow states while giving his friend a bland look.

I can see Edge’s eye start to twitch. “No shit, why didn’t I think of that?”

“Probably because your old ass is having trouble even admitting that technology is helpful.”

“We’re the same age,” Edge huffs.

I’m so enthralled with their bickering that I don’t even see Mel walk in and jump sky high when she begins to speak. “Will you two cut it out. I swear to God, you’re worse than an old married couple. Hell, they probably bicker less than you two do.”

“I really need to clean house and get all new people around me. Maybe then I’ll get people who don’t give me shit all the time,” Edge growls under his breath. I used to get worried that he was serious and would start to worry about my job. However, after months of him saying the same thing over and over, I’m no longer concerned. I just give him a sympathetic smile while mentally rolling my eyes. The man would give up his right arm before giving up any of us.

“Anyway,” Mel doesn’t hide her eye roll at all. I’m pretty sure she even exaggerates it just to annoy him. “I’m here to get Cadie.” I blink and suddenly remember why… damn. “We need to head over to the gym.”

I can’t hide my grimace. I really hate doing this even though it’s been a few weeks since we started training there. I understand that it’s a good idea, but the gym is always so full it makes me anxious. The only good part is that Jameson is absolutely adorable and puts me at ease, which is odd considering how big he is. But it’s impossible to be afraid of him. I honestly just want to shelter him from getting put into the friend zone without realizing it again. Poor guy, he’s still not convinced that he was friend zoned.

“Oh, well, I might need to stay here and work a bit more. But you should definitely go!” I clear my throat after my overzealous statement. “I’m sure that Axel is counting down the seconds until he sees you,” I say to redirect her attention even if it’s true. Axel is probably anxiously awaiting her arrival. For a man who is large and foreboding, he sure does light up like a Christmas tree the second that he sees her.

I can see Edge’s lips twitch. “Nah, don’t worry about it; Marrow can help me go through all of this. You can head out with Mel.”

I purse my lips and try to think quickly. “Yes, but I’ve gone through quite a bit of it. It would probably be easier for me to go through it with you.”

Mel huffs and puts her hands on her hips. “Girl, you are not getting out of it. We all know what you’re trying to do. Get your ass up and let’s go.” She turns on her heel and walks away without a backwards glance.

I look at the two men who are trying to hide their smirks behind their meaty dinner plates they call hands and frown.

“Don’t even think about it,” Edge chuckles.

I blink innocently. “Think about what?”

“Darlin’,” Marrow smirks at me, making my stomach clench and not in a bad way, “you better go after her. That woman is hell on wheels when she sets her mind on something. And that something is seeing her man. I can guarantee you don’t want to mess with her right now.”

“Fine,” I sigh before giving Edge a pleading look. “Are you sure you don’t want me to stay and help?”

His snort makes my hopes fall. “Cadie, I haven’t lived this long by being a dumb man. I’m not dealing with her wrath. You’re on your own.”

Well… damn.

IwatchCadieleaveand shake my head. She looks like she was walking to her demise instead of a training session. I give Edge a smirk, matching his own. “You think she hates training that much?”

He gives me a thoughtful look before answering. “I think she likes the aspect of learning how to defend herself and I’m sure she’s fine with Jameson. But I think all of the other people there still freak her out a bit. She hates leaving her comfort zone. But she’ll adapt.” He chuckles lightly. “Hell, if she can be around Draven without getting twitchy, I’m sure a few meatheads at a gym will be child’s play soon enough.”

“You need somethin’?” The man himself appears out of thin air. I won’t lie, the guy even creeps me out at times, but that might also be because I can guess some of his back story. His eyes speak volumes and none of it is happy.

Edge shakes his head. “Nah, we were just talking about how if Cadie could get used to your creepy ass, that the meatheads at the gym will be nothing before long.”

Drav raises an eyebrow. “Maybe, maybe not.”
