He gets a smile on his face like he’s back in control. What he doesn’t realize is that he’ll never be in control of anything in his life ever again. “Now where is the stupid whore? I’ve come a long way to drag her back home, and I want her out here right now.”

I ignore his words as my thumb flips around the screen on my phone until I find what I’m looking for. I look over at him and give him a vicious smile causing him to shake. “She’s not going anywhere with you,” I growl before I tap the screen.

My front door swings open forcefully and knocks him face first onto the ground. The gun goes skidding across the foyer as Marc and Damon walk in, their weapons drawn and matching smirks on their faces.

“SAPD Police, don’t move!” Marc’s tone is all business, but his eyes are dancing as he looks down at the piece of shit trying to crawl away.

Damon’s boot on his back halts that automatically. In a move so fast that I would’ve missed if I wasn’t watching, he holsters his weapon, takes out his cuffs and handcuffs Dominic the dick in under twenty seconds. For such a big guy, he sure as fuck moves fast.

Marc radios in, letting the dispatcher know that they’ve apprehended him and a few short minutes later some other officers are carting him out to a patrol car. I get a text from Jax and Xander to let me know that they’ll be disappearing into the night since they’re no longer needed. Which is what we discussed. No need to let anyone else know that this was planned. My skin is already itchy knowing that Marc and Damon know. The less cops the better.

Damon stands against the wall like a fucking gargoyle. I’m not even sure he’s blinked since he handed off Dominic. His wife is the sweetest person I’ve ever met and it’s really true what they say. Opposites attract big time. He raises an eyebrow when he catches me looking at him. “What?”

“Nothin’.” I rub my beard. “You can come in and have a seat, ya know.”

He gives me a smirk and shakes his head. “Nah, I’ll stand here in case I need to pull a pissed off woman from you. It wouldn’t look good if we let her strangle you to death without doin’ somethin’.”

I can’t even hide my grimace. “I’m not really lookin’ forward to letting out her or her parents.”

“I bet.” Marc snorts. “But unfortunately for you, we’ll need to get everyone’s statement.” He walks toward me with a shit-eating grin and slaps me on the shoulder. “Time to face the music.”

I’d love to deck him, but assaulting a cop would probably be bad. Onthe other hand though…

“Don’t even think about it,” Damon chuckles darkly. “Despite how enjoyable it would be to watch you clock him, neither of us would take you into the station. We would make damn sure your woman dealt with you instead.”

My cheek twitches and I glance over at Marc to gauge his reaction, since I was planning on hitting him after all. I’m more than mildly confused when I see him smiling.

He shakes his head at me. “I don’t blame you, man. It would be a solid plan if it were any other cops. Hell, I’d do it to stay out of Kay’s crosshairs, but there is no fucking way we’ll take you in and charge you. We’d have to deal with Dee because of it, and as much as I love her, she’s still a demon when she wants to be. I avoid her bad side at all costs, man. You’re on your own.”

“Fine,” I grunt before walking to mybedroom. Truthfully, I feel as if I’m walking to my death. I’m not really sure what’s going to happen once I open up that door. But no matter what, I don’t regret anything. That fucker is gone for good, and I don’t just mean jail time. He’s going to meet an unfortunate accident after suffering in there for about a year or two. Enough time for him to have made a decent number of enemies; that way no one suspects anything.

I tap the screen to release all the locks on the doors and walk slowly into my bedroom. I walk to the wall and take a deep breath. I don’t normally let my emotions get the best of me, but I’m more nervous right now than I was during my first tour of duty. I blow out the breath slowly and type in the override code.

I back away as the door opens, just in case, and wait for Cadie to walk into the bedroom.

And out she walks, or more like strides right past me, only sparing me a withering glare before marching into the living room. I sedately walk behind her and turn my head when I see her parents open their door.

“What’s going on?” Her mother asks while tying a robe around herself. “We heard a bunch of commotion but couldn’t open the door.”

I rub the back of my head and give her a sheepish look as they both exit the bedroom and follow me down the hall. “Sorry about that. I locked them for your safety.”

“Why would you need to do that?” Larry asks before stopping abruptly when he sees Marc and Damon trying not to smirk at a pissed off Sprite. “Why are there police officers here?”

“Because,” Cadie hisses as she turns to glare at me, “Dominic followed you guys here and broke in tonight.”

“Oh, my goodness, sweet girl, I am so sorry,” her mother gasps as she raises her hands to her mouth.

“It’s not your fault, Mom,” Cadie says through gritted teeth. “Jacob here figured that he would when he invited you. I’m guessing it was all part of his plan.” The flames being shot from her eyes in my direction isn’t lost on anyone.

“Why on God’s green earth would you do such a thing?” her mother growls impressively while taking a step toward me. I look over at Marc and Damon to see them take a step back. Protect and serve my ass.

Larry grabs her arm and pulls her back to him with a grin on his face. “He did it because he knew that son of a bitch wouldn’t be able to help himself.”

She smacks his arm. “That’s what makes it awful! He broke in and could’ve hurt our little girl!” she screeches, not that I blame her. Any mother would be angry over the thought of her daughter in danger.

“Minx, she was never in danger. That man would never allow it.” Minx? I look over at Cadie who narrows her eyes. I’ll just ask about that nickname another time then.

She puts her hands on her hips. “He allowed him to follow us and break in here! Of course, she was in danger. That dickhead could’ve attacked her at any time today. The three of us strolled around town all by ourselves.”
