“Grrrrr!” Jen screeches as she waves the arm Jax is holding until he lets go. Just in time for her to smack him on the side of the head. I’m sure that was completely accidental. “Jax just decided to piss me off and I yelled at him without thinking.”

Bri’s dark orbs find mine. “Umm, and he decided to grab her arm because she yelled at him?”

“No,” I shake my head, “he grabbed her arm so that she couldn’t weasel away before explaining,” I give Jen a pointed look, “in great detail everything that those little fuckers at her school have been saying to her," Igrowl, getting angrier and angrier by the minute.

“Oh.” Briella looks between the three of us as the light switch flicks on in her brain. She gives Jenny a sympathetic look. “Been getting crap because of their antics?” She looks between Jax and I, making us both frown.

“It’s fine, okay?” Jen huffs. “If he didn’t live to piss me off, this wouldn’t even be an issue.” She waves flippantly in Jax’s direction.

“I don’t piss you off,” he defends before looking at our three faces with matching incredulous looks. “Not purposely,” he amends.

Jen crosses her arms and taps her sneaker clad foot against the linoleum flooring. “Please, you have been dead set on annoying me since the first day I started here.” Jax goes to speak but she holds her hand up in front of his face. I swear, the girl has more guts than brains some days. “Don’t even, it started with that stupid nickname and has only escalated from there.”

“I happen to think little bear is a nice nickname to have,” I chime in with a shit eating grin. We all love that it annoys her so much.

She whirls on me and points her finger in my face. “You’re lucky therearen'tany knives laying around.”

I give her a bright smile. “Don’t worry, I already made sure of that during your screeching and eye twitching meltdown.”

Bri raises an eyebrow at me while pursing her luscious lips. “I thought you said that you didn’t have to worry about her doing anything to you guys?”

I shrug one shoulder. “That was before she started acting like the Bride of Chucky. I didn’t want her to go crazy and take Jax out.”

Jen gives me a sugary sweet smile filled with malicious intent. “Aww X,” she smacks the side of my cheek with more force than necessary, “don’t sell yourself short. At this point, I would have no problem taking out both of you," shegives me a shrug. “Two annoying birds, one stone type of deal.”

“You really think we would let you stab us?” Jax questions, his tone affronted.

She cocks out her hip and looks him over. “Face facts, you two are about as dangerous to me as a puppy. So, yeah, you two dopes would let me stab you, just so that I didn’t end up hurting myself. It’s more dangerous for me to shave my legs than it is to point a knife at you.”

We all look at Briella as she begins to giggle uncontrollably. “She kind of has a point.” She holds her stomach and leans against the wall. “I can actually picture her coming at you both with a butcher knife and you two just running into it, just so that she doesn’t have to hold it any longer.” She slides down the wall onto her butt with tears streaming down her face. “Two gigantic bikers getting taken down by a teenage girl that you pissed off. Can you imagine the headlines that would get?”

The smirk Jenny sends our way is nothing short of vindicated. “Don’t smirk like that,” I huff at the teenage annoyance. “We all know that you don’t have a mean bone in your body.”

She purses her lips. “You don’t know that for sure.”

I tilt my head at Jax. “If you did, you would’ve taken him out a long ass time ago.”

“Fair enough," sheconcedes making Jax’s eyes narrow, at her or me, I’m not really sure.

“She’s right,” Bri cackles from the floor. “You two are as scary to her as a day old puppy.”

Jax looks me dead in the eyes. “I think we broke her already.”

I scratch the side of my cheek while looking down at Bri. “Nah, I don’t think it was us. She hasn’t been here long enough.”

Bri gives a snort that would make any piglet proud. “Trust me, I was broken long before you guys showed up in my life.Yourhorrible filing system just finally tipped me over the edge of insanity.”

“See, not our fault,” I say with a fake smile, trying to ignore the burning rage I feel about her being broken. I can guess how that happened and I don’t like the mental image.

“We didn’t help,” Jax drawls from his chair.

Bri waves a hand in the air. “Anyway, we’re not talking about me.” I make amental noteto get her to tell me about her past and who deserves to have an unfortunate accident. “Jenny, honey, what has been going on?”

I slowly reach out my hand towards Bri and she looks up at me with a small smile. She takes my hand and allows me to pull her up off the floor. “Thanks,” she mumbles, turning an interesting shade of pink.

“No problem,” I say as I release her hand. No need to seem like a creepy fucker, standing here, holding onto her longer than necessary, even if I want to.

I look at Jax to find him watching me like a hawk. I stare back at him in silent challenge. He looks away, but not before letting me know that we’ll be continuing our earlier discussion later. Wonderful.
